I have difficulty typing on some keyboards, getting pain in my fingers after a day's worth of typing (or less depending on the keyboard), which several years ago was remedied by using a Das II keyboard (the one with "mechanical" key switches).
I recently became aware of the new "Model S Ultimate Silent Keyboard" by Das which claims to be a silent (or rather much less noisy) 'mechanical' keyboard. If it is the case that this new model Das is very similar or the same to use as my older II model, but can be very quiet then that would be really great as some of my colleagues at work would prefer me to use a quieter keyboard.
However, I do not know if the Model S Ultimate Silent is similarly equivalent to use as the old model II. I have looked online and on the forum here, but have been unable to find a comparison with the II and the Model S (and specifically the Ultimate Silent version).
I would really appreciate it if someone could please point me in the right direction, or if they know help me to answer my question.
Thank you,
-Rob

You could go one step further and take a look at the Kinesis Advantage (http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/)

The only "silent" Das Keyboard before today's "Model S Silent" came out is a rubber dome Key Tronic 3600 with a "Das Keyboard" label which you can find anywhere for $20 or less.
I have the Das Keyboard Model S Silent and it's the very same feel as the Cherry Blue but it doesn't have that racketty snap, just a bottom-out clack. Typing on it is effortless.
You don't have to limit yourself to Das Keyboard; there are many Cherry Brown keyboards out there and some of the new gaming keyboards using Browns are not as expensive as the Das. Either way, you will like it, but if you haven't tried silent ALPS keyboards like ABS M10 and DSI Mechanical Big Font, see if you can give them a try, as they're both very cheap right now.

I don't think u still can find a DAS 2 now
Consider DAS S will be a better choice

If you're looking for a cheaper keyboard with the Das feel and don't mind funny layouts, feel free to look at http://cgi.ebay.com/Compaq-Compaq-185152-406-Rackmount-Keyboard-w-Trackball-/120635416551?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c166e5fe7
There's also this wacky keyboard (http://cgi.ebay.com/COMPAQ-158649-001-KEYBOARD-TRACKBALL-164989-001-/120635416513?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c166e5fc1), but I'm not sure about the key switches.
