Post by: 5443 on Sat, 13 July 2024, 06:51:08
Unicomp Model M, Filco Tenkeyless

Still testing it out, pretty good, any suggestions what I should do to the new keyboard next?

For the filco, would recommend swapping the keycaps with something else, filco caps aren't really that good. DCS keycaps from signature plastics seem like a good fit for them, gmk caps work fine too but I heard there is some interference with the costar stabs.

I would also personally replace the internals with a replacement PCB and plate, because cherry stabs are a lot more convenient for pretty similar results, or at least modding the switches by spring swapping the switches with something like 55g tx springs, lube the springs with 105g0 and then resoldering. But I would understand not doing that because those parts are pretty hard to come by and also desoldering filco boards sucks because the solder isn't leaded.

With the unicomp, there really isn't too much to do with it. Unicomp boards are boards you don't really need to tinker with. It's pretty good stock.

Yeah, there's not a whole lot to do with a Unicomp in good repair.  It is what it is.  If you want to have some fun, Unicomp sells keycaps in different colors and a few dye-sub novelties.  I guess there's the floss mod if you want to get really persnickety, but it seems a lot of people don't get the results they want.

I see the floss mod as kind of a pointless thing. It's pretty loud anyway the pinging isn't that big of a deal, besides the pinging adds character.
