Title: What are my options for programmable keyboards that work with MacOS?
Post by: aycko on Fri, 30 August 2024, 13:51:37
I'm looking for a keyboard that has additional keys that I can use as custom hotkeys. I want to have keys that I can use exclusively for my personal scripts that don't overlap with existing hotkeys in other applications.

Some keyboards have extra keys like M1, M2, ... or Fn keys, but they often don't work on MacOS. Take my Leopold 750, it has a Fn key, but it's not recognized by MacOS.

I prefer hardware solutions over software workarounds.

Which options do I have?

have you tried a programmable keyboard with a [tmk, qmk, zmk, kmk] firmware? i only worked with qmk so far, but there you can program any keycode on any key. you could for example program F13-24 on your extra keys and have them start your scripts.
