Smoke from canola oil is known to cause lung cancer, yes. But in normal cooking you never heat it up so much that there is smoke.
When seasoning a pan though...

Everything causes cancer these days, why bother fighting it, enjoy life while you can. They'll cure cancer someday.

Exactly. I already had cancer in age of 43, I changed my thinking after that. I'm going enjoy my life and do things I would like to do, as I may finish my run in 10 years (or live till high 90s like my grandparents). Who knows what is going to happen, cancer is covering whole population now, no point in worrying all the time.
"They'll cure cancer.." - dont think so, might sounds like I like the conspiracy theory, but I think pharmacology companies won't release cancer killer cause that is one of the best population control nowadays. Plus all that money they getting from chemo stuff...

Worry more about the non-stick pan you're using.
If they do cure cancer it won't be a U.S. based company.

It's not great for you but if you have reasonable extraction it's not that bad. PAHs don't form that readily under cooking conditions if you're using appropriate oils for the temperature you're using.
