Post by: Meg on Mon, 01 November 2010, 10:55:22
Where are people discovering all these "new" M15s?? Another one on eBay, was at $641 a few minutes ago:

Oh, it's definitely clickykeyboards. It certainly looks like their format, and then they even tweeted about it, but I didn't see the tweet until after I posted here.

Yes, sorry, I didn't see that post before I made mine since the subject didn't mention anything about the manufacturer or model number etc.

With people bidding over $600 on the 1st day of listing ??? Keep well away from it.

One bidder who put in his big bid early, and three other folks probing for his limit and quitting -- all in the first few hours, with no activity since then.

Possibly because these GH members who are bidding do not wish to draw too much attention to this listing. Too late.

I would like to invest in this as well.  I think we could be on to something.  One thing for sure is we need to have international shipping.

How do you see the names of the bidders?  I only see a code instead of their name when I look.

I'm pretty sure the "code is _x**y_, where the first and last letters are chopped off and the middle letters are asterisks.

I feel like I got a bargain at $560 back in August. I could turn a nice profit on it, but I'd have serious seller's remorse. Economics is/are interesting like that. I'm not going to sell it for $1000, but I would not have paid $1000 for it. Your supply/demand curves can suck it, Ripster! ;)

I decided to work on my touch-typing skills, and I can get up to 80 WPM, from 55-60 just a short few months ago. And that's with my arms on the armrests of my chair. The lack of palmrest can be annoying but it encourages good hand position.

In case I do decide to sell it one day, and so you guys don't use my old posts against me: what I thought was a hairline fracture is actually just a scratch.

I really like having dual arrow keys. I don't miss having a numpad (my last main keyboard was a MS Natural Pro with the numpad keys removed to make room for a mousepad anyway).

Minor complaints:

Springs feel uneven, and it's definitely not by design. Some keys are easier to depress than others. Namely: A, S, R, N, M, Y, and some punctuation keys. Q, W, Z, and P are particularly resistant (the annoying one is P). I'll have to see if other Model M springs are compatible. It's probably a model-to-model or user-to-user thing. I would think it was wear, but E, I, T, and L are just fine. I actually wish L were lighter.

And would it have killed them to make the Ctrl key double-width? My pinky goes straight into the gap. Who knows, maybe it was on purpose.

The top surface of each key is larger than the keys on the standard Model M. The keys have a bit more wiggle room. They're less wobbly than any rubber-dome or Cherry switch keyboard, but they're not quite as steady as a regular Model M or Alps white. This makes for slightly less solid keypresses. It could, again, be the springs.

Finally, this thing is LOUD. We're talking typewriter loud. My ears actually ache a little after typing for a while.

I should really post a full review, shouldn't I?

It is a classic example of a poor 8_inch_floppy post title.

First of all, I am not the op.  Second, what is wrong with my "post titles"(I"m assuming you mean thread titles)?
