Hi
Well, I'm currently in the market for a keyboard with Cherry Browns but from my research, the landscape in Europe is drab.
Over to the left you have the FILCO and to the right you have... nothing?
It seems there are no other manufacturers out there which make Cherry Brown boards for the Euro market. Or am I mistaken there?
-
According to the american site, the "das keyboard Ultimate S" is cherry brown.
http://www.daskeyboard.com/model-s-ultimate-silent/
It can be bought with a european layout here
http://www.getdigital.de/products/Das_Keyboard_Model_S
And since the keys are blank, it fits a lot of european languages...
-
You can find a G80-3000 on ebay with browns, in europe. Check the wiki for G80 model numbers that have browns.
-
Cherry Brown G80-3000s in Europe will be hard to find. Even in the US they were a custom order.
Yep. Basically such a board would have to be imported from somewhere else. They are, however, readily available with clears (German, Swiss and US-Euro layout).
-
Any Cherry representative in your country can call Cherry directly and ask if there is any g80-3000 with browns in stock. Cherry makes the g80-3000 only after a big order. Some pieces are left in stock.
Another place is here (http://www.zizanio.de), I havent tried it though.
Search for "cherry g80-3000". Examine the results thoroughly to find the one with browns and EU layout (most are with DE layout).
EDIT: Ignore this post. It is misleading. I though they were brown switches but they are actually MX Clear switches !

email from http://www.keybo.de/content/keybo.storefront
(exclusiv store in germany for cherry)
we have no more Cherry Boards with Browns!
i ordered a G80-3000LQC after some people here told me that is browns
i should better beleave the wiki.
no G80-3000 would be produced with cherry browns anymore - thats my information. i make a direct call cherry germany
i very curious someone could prove that is wrong

Have seen others with brown on german site. Like I said, check wiki for switch type.
Ripster: 4chan called. Go home.
-
Maybe it wasnt clear in my above post...
This site (http://www.zizanio.de) appears to have limited stock of the G80-3000LQCEU-0.
-
And the black variety (http://www.zizanio.de/eshop.php?action=article_detail&s_supplier_aid=405459)

Wiki: Unfortunately Cherry Brown Switches (Cherry part number MX1A-G1NW) do not appear to be available except by special order
and
Cherry (MX Brown) - 45g
Cherry Keyboard G80-3000LXCEU-2
why you giving the false tips?

Maybe it wasnt clear in my above post...
This site (http://www.zizanio.de) appears to have limited stock of the G80-3000LQCEU-0.
the only thing clear is the switch in the keyboard....
-
Seriously, the LQCDE??
Those are clear switch keyboards. Guess what I sold just yesterday in the classifieds
Hmm, the Das looks nice but I find the form factor of a FILCO much more appealing. Enough to shell out the additional €20.
There isn't a German layout Ducky, right?

It would just be a matter of changing alphabet and numbers keycaps.
-
This page (http://www.cherry.de/english/products/keyboards_G80-3000.htm) refers to the LQCEU-0 as "soft pressure point" in the models section.
If by soft it means clear switches i apologize i didnt want to mislead anyone. I was planning to get one for my self.
I cant find the page of the wiki that explains the lettering on cherry models.
-
The wiki (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Dating+Cherry+keyboards) is your friend (specifically: Five-letter (current models)).

To be fair Zefrer, Rip has been here a LOT longer than you have, and he's probably one of the most knowledgeable people in here. I'm not saying he's right and you're wrong, I'm saying in my mind I am more likely to trust a Rip post than a Zefrer post.

Cherry never officially made any G80-3000 with MX Browns in any country.
The Datacal ones are special orders and therefore have the X code.. the same is used for some red switch boards and some other special orders (such as the DAS2).
LQC is clears.
"soft-tactile pressure" is clears.
"ergonomic soft tactile pressure" is browns.
That should be all.

Ebay.de tends to have a bunch of cherry MX boards available. Not very cheap, and you'll have to dig to find the exact type of MX switch...
But if you're looking for German layout, it's probably the most common layout on ebay.de - for obvious reasons. There's also some Finnish Filco importer but I'm not sure how similar Finnish and German layouts are.

Wow, never thought of that. I just looked, and there just happens to be a Cherry distributor in my city. They don't have the g80-3000 in stock though. They do have the g80-1800LAMUS-0 (http://www.alliedelec.com/search/productdetail.aspx?SKU=9080004). What switches does that come with normally? I don't like gray much though. Maybe they can order a black one?
Edit: I see now it says "linear feel", so I assume it has blacks.

Yep - any G80-1800 would have blacks unless it's a custom order.
Oh, and a LAMUS-0 should be a bit of an odd beast, DIN connector and 104-key but post-2002 and predating 2007.
As I'm typing this on blacks, I definitely wouldn't want to write a novel on 'em. Even a Model M seems a good bit lighter, clears too. C'mon Cherry, get a few more of these reds out...
-
What I don't understand is looking at Cherry's catalog from their homepage, I don't see a g80-3000 or 3494 even listed. How come they are new on eBay being shipped from Asia? They don't even have a g80 model listed under desktop products except for a numeric keypad.
-
That's because you are looking at their US catalog, which has largely been restricted to specialty products for years. You'll have to refer to the German web site in Germanglish translation, there the G80-3000 is listed (http://www.cherry.de/english/products/keyboards_G80-3000.htm). While the company's founder was an American, it is based in Germany, with keyboards being made there and in the Czech Republic next door.
The 3494 was a custom order by some Asian distributor. Those are the ones with reds, aren't they? Minimum order quantity for such variations seems to be about 50 at the moment.
-
The company's founder was American?
In fact, the whole company was founded there, but focus shifted to Germany after a while. Company history (http://www.cherrycorp.com/cherry/History_CherryCorp.htm)
Walter Cherry himself holds several switch patents, but those have nothing to do with MX switches.
Now that is sad. I just thought the keyboard export ban was in retaliation for that whole Daimler/Chrysler debacle.
LOL.
-
In the USA Americans hate Obama for saving GM and Chrysler. Yet they want more jobs. Poor guy can't win.
FUD. That's not why Americans aren't happy with him at all.
-
Historically speaking, his approval ratings are pretty decent, so it's not really accurate to say that Americans are all that unhappy with him. If you compare his approval/disapproval with Reagan or Clinton at this point in their terms, he's actually doing really well considering the state of the economy.

Are there any issues using a 5 pin AT to 6 pin PS/2 adapter? What about going from 5 pin AT to PS/2 to USB? Can that be done or do they have a direct 5 pin to USB adapter?
Edit: This is the info for the g80-1800LAMUS. What exactly do they mean by non-Windows? Also, does this mean it has an AT and a PS/2 connector?
G80-1800LAMUS-0
Lt grey 16" PS2 keyboard, US 104
layout, non-Windows, AT connector.
MX switches.
