Title: Cleaning KB: Aerosol Air Duster costs $$$, alternative?
Post by: codek on Sat, 06 November 2010, 17:28:17
Just bought a couple of Model M's, M13, AT101's, ultranav's because of this site all within joining this site less than a week ago. Call me crazy.

I received them and they need a major cleaning but I'm sick of spending $$$$ on aerosol air dusters.

Anyone try a MetroVac air duster?  Price is right @ $44 but some reivews says it's overpowering and some say the pressure is weaker than aerosol air dusters.

http://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-ED500-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001J4ZOAW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1289082144&sr=8-3 (http://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-ED500-500-Watt-Electric/dp/B001J4ZOAW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1289082144&sr=8-3)

I was thinking of spending a more and buying this

or

There are really powerful ones which I might consider buying since you can dry your car with them and do other heavy duty things with them.

I'd really prefer buying the $44 one if it does the job.   Anyone have experience with these air dusters?  Any recs?  What do you guys do?

Check the review section for ripster's review of the datavac. Sounds just like what you're looking for.

Everyone knows that the duster cans are only good for huffing.

Is the smaller DVR-1 powerful enough? or am I better off with a straw and my lungs

ripster, just read your review. Would you ever go a step up in the datavac series or does the 500E meet all your needs?

$230 and the Amazon reviews don't look so hot. (http://www.amazon.com/Metro-Vacuum-MDV3TCA-DataVac-Carrying/dp/B000OVUH30/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1289095507&sr=8-1)

so all you need is the 500E cool

If you keep water out of your system, a compressor and air hose with the air gun thingy works great as long as you don't get too carried away.
Yes, it's more upfront but it has so many uses you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.  I have a cheaper compressor that is extremely loud.  I wish I had one of these.  The tanks are small but it's very efficient at filling them up quickly.  I have a huge vertical tank unit but would rather have a smaller Makita.

That looks like a MAC2400 2.5hp which is about $300 at amazon.
The 2hp version is only $189.  Will the 2hp suffice? or if i get one just the MAC2400.  It looks way better than the MAC700.

I'm pretty sure an ultrasonic cleaner would be both cheaper and more effective.
