YES, it's sloppifying...
BUhhhh, given that the majority of Games don't evolve much in play mechanics, that their Artistic direction fall within well defined tropes as well.
AI rendering over simplified geometry actually makes alot of sense.
For example, If it's a zombie game, the Fat guy zombie always blows up or squirts goo at you.
The way information is compartmentalized, Just as we had almost all music fall within systems of KNOWN, Well Defined chord progressions. We are at the point where the "Digital" artistry of Games often do the same.
If it's the case that rendering subsurface refractions, shadow, fog, particles, is CHEAPER computationally than via Unreal Engine,
THEN, why not have AI tools which artists tune-or-retrain to their specification.
This is merely another option vs Brute-force compute on the base engine.
For once, Tp4 believes the PUBLIC is in the wrong here, and as you know Tp4 is almost 100% correct 100% of the time.
EXAMPLE, let's say you want to render a wheel on the car. You need 5000 polygons to get round looking tires and well defined Rim spokes. Now you need 1 polygon with a texture, the Slop-engine knows that texture means wheel, and the long side of the triangle leads forward rotation, it just renders a wheel.
IF, this AI wheel is cheaper computationally than a 5000 polygon wheel, Don't see why we wouldn't use it.
There are so many applications, For example, faces need extremely high poly count, and SKIN need subsurface rendering, so in engine it's rendering the face 5-10 times (steps) depending on conditions, with AI, almost certainly you come out ahead computationally.
This idea of give me REAL PIXELS is weird, because the GAME itself is FAKE, Games have to fake lots of things, fake light cast, art shadows, etc just to run in real time, any game developer will tell you, they have to invent big bags of tricks because otherwise the game won't run in real time..
AI shader is no more FAKE than the Game engine Faking it in other ways..
