Where the inspiration comes from


Hello everyone,

I am a custom keyboard enthusiast from Japan, currently living in Silicon Valley, and I have been part of this hobby for about 8 years.

Pixel67 began with my love for old IBM and Apple keyboards. I have always been drawn to the way those early keyboards created such a strong visual identity through simple lines, limited colors, and bold proportions. They were not trying to look luxurious, yet they carried a kind of honest, functional beauty that still feels memorable today.

With Pixel67, I wanted to create a retro-inspired 67% custom keyboard that feels nostalgic without feeling outdated, solid without becoming unnecessarily heavy or complicated, and personal without losing everyday usability.

With the help of my friends at Keykobo, we spent the past 8 months developing the design, structure, colorways, and prototypes. From the case proportions to the internal brass weight, tri-mode PCB, and redesigned gasket structure, the goal was to create a complete custom keyboard experience while keeping the project approachable.

Design Details

Pogo Pin Gasket Mount

The Pogo Pin Gasket Mount was by far the most time-consuming part of the Pixel67 to develop and fine tune. We went through extensive testing to achieve a typing experience that feels balanced, controlled, and consistently comfortable.

Compared to traditional PCB leaf spring or plate leaf spring gasket designs, the pogo pin structure provides much better consistency in typing feel across the board. Each pogo pin requires nearly identical force to compress, which creates a more even and predictable rebound throughout the keyboard. This helps eliminate uneven support between different areas of the plate and PCB.

Another major advantage is long-term durability. Traditional gasket or leaf spring structures can gradually fatigue over time, but pogo pins maintain their characteristics without losing responsiveness or support. This allows the keyboard to preserve its original typing feel even after extended use.

The final result is a keyboard with a controlled amount of flex that feels comfortable without becoming overly soft or unstable. The pogo pins provide enough support to the PCB and plate assembly to create a clean, stable, and very pleasant typing experience while still retaining the elasticity in a gasket mount design.

Internal Brass Weight

The internal brass weight adds substantial heft to the keyboard, giving the Pixel67 a more premium and grounded feel on the desk. Beyond the added weight, the high-density brass also plays a major role in shaping the keyboard’s acoustic profile.

The brass weight helps dampen unwanted resonance inside the case while filling out the internal structure to reduce empty space. This results in a cleaner and denser sound signature with significantly less hollow or pinging noise, even in a foamless configuration.

Combined with the overall mounting design, the internal brass weight helps create a typing experience that feels solid, controlled, and acoustically refined without sacrificing comfort or flexibility.

Keycaps and Switches

Pixel67 is available in both Pre-built and bare-bone configurations to accommodate different preferences within the keyboard community.

The Pre-built version comes fully assembled and ready to use out of the box. It includes:

1. Keykobo ABS Doubleshot Keycap Set (MAC keys will be included in the keyboard kit)

2. HMX Clacky Switches (PC Top Housing, LY Stem, P2 Bottom Housing)

3. Tuned and lubed stabilizers

4. Foam Kit

For enthusiasts who prefer building and customizing their own setup, the Barebone version comes without switches, stabilizers and keycaps, allowing users to freely choose their preferred parts.

Keyboard Specs

Pixel67 was designed from the ground up with long-term typing comfort in mind.

The front lip of the keyboard features a subtle slope that naturally fits the angle of your hands and wrists, allowing for a more comfortable typing posture without requiring a wrist rest. This creates a smoother transition from desk to keyboard and helps reduce fatigue during extended typing sessions.

The keyboard also utilizes a balanced 6-degree typing angle, which is widely considered one of the most comfortable and natural angles for everyday typing. It provides an ergonomic typing position suitable for most users without feeling too flat or overly aggressive.

For customization enthusiasts, Pixel67 fully supports both VIA and QMK. Users can freely remap keys, create custom layers, configure macros, and personalize the keyboard layout entirely to their own workflow and preferences.

Four colors are available: System Silver, Classic Beige, Terminal Green, and Vintage Brown. A matching ABS double-shot keycap set will be provided if the pre-built option is selected at checkout.

This board doesn't look bad, but I wanted to share something that the community learned several years ago.

Side gaskets are generally bad. They make the assembly feel a bit stiff and choke/dampen the sound way too much. It leads to an uneven typing feel and uneven sound.

That said, you can just not install them as the end user from what I can see of your renders.

Also, Are there any other plates for this board? I'm not seeing variations in layout options either.
