Agree with me?
My heart cringes whenever I hear it.. I just don't know why!
I just had the urge to share it to you guys..
Soundtrack version:

CD version:

Live version:

These are one of the few artists who sound almost exactly like they are on recording or live.. living proof that some people still do make music properly.
PS1: Somehow, artists with a "The" preceding their names are usually nice.. what do you think? Eg. The Weepies, etc etc.
PS2: How do you get Youtube codes to work? (or they don't work on this forum)
-
Not my cup of tea. As for the youtube codes. It's [youtube]AGJ8dY_IcgE[ /youtube]

This video contains content from foxsearchlight and Sony Music Entertainment, one or more of whom have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.
Nice, eh.

Needs more violin...

I'd wholehartedly recommend listening to the Most Wanted Song (http://www.wired.com/listening_post/2008/05/survey-produced/). It's got all the aspects of a song people like!
This "most wanted" version combines the elements the 500 people surveyed said they wanted most — love, soprano sax, humble ambition, tenor sax, a marriage proposal, cheesy electronic drum fills, working the night shift, string swells, power chords, and saccharine male/female harmonies — into an easy listening-style adult contemporary sound that could peel the paint off of the Space Shuttle.

There are many songs that I love, but it seemed to me that for a thread like this, a slow and gentle melody would be what would fit...
and I found this one.
-
so is this a love song thread now? We're getting soft... tsk tsk

In searching for something appropriate for this thread, as I perceived it, before I settled on Unchained Melody, I had two other choices, at least one of which I would have had to admit was trite and overused:
Vic Damone, singing "On the Street where You Live", and Patti Page, singing "Tennessee Waltz". Plus a couple other songs that I'd already presented in other music threads.

“There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it.” – Chinese Proverb
I don't think there's such a thing as the most beautiful song ever. One's "most beautiful song ever" is different from person to person, and can even be different for the same person over time. I don't have a "most beautiful song ever" choice, but I do find "I'm already there" by Lonestar very very beautiful, even more since became a father.
-
It is true that, literally, it is not meaningful to speak of a song as the most beautiful song there ever was. But that does not mean that a thread like this cannot serve a useful purpose. There are many very beautiful melodies in the world, and I have not heard them all. A pointer in the direction of one I have missed would enrich my life.
This has happened on some other threads - and, from Japan and then Finland, I've found a few gems on YouTube myself, I think.
-
*The* love song, if that's what we're after. There are few songs that I think are as "pretty". However, "pretty" isn't the only reason for music.

I did not say that this kind of thread was not useful, did I ? :-) There are many great songs which I am not aware either. It would nice if we can get some input from people from various parts of the planet. I am sure there are some great songs from non-English-speaking countries.
By the way, "Unchained Melody" is one of the classic songs which have stood the test of time.

The lovely Julie Delpy intro song to the movie.
Was this footage shot in Paris by any chance?

If we are being serious, this one comes to mind but there are too many to choose from:
Not a valid youtube URL

I now have many beautiful songs to listen to.. thanks guys for the suggestions!

And here I only remembered "God Only Knows" from one of my Olivia Newton-John albums.
Speaking of this diabolus in musica, I suppose it only displays my lack of musical taste
to note that I think this is a particularly beautiful song as well. But then, maybe it's only the songs in her later career that it shows a lack of taste to enjoy...
but then I must confess to that too; although there is much in Disco that was terrible, it wasn't all bad, in my no doubt warped opinion.

One of my favourite songs.

Everyone has their own most beautiful song. One of the candidates for me has to be :-

This is a sad song about goodbyes: only three days since you have left, and already I am breaking down. I have to tell you this because it is not in English, but in Greek:
I had almost forgotten that I do know of much better songs than even the best ones from Olivia Newton-John - but I had hesitated to indulge in including a foreign-language song.
-
I bought some Ultimate Ears Triple.FI 10 earphones (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=triple.fi&x=0&y=0#%2Fref%3Dnb_sb_noss%3Furl%3Dsearch-alias%253Daps%26field-keywords%3Dtriple.fi%2B10%26rh%3Di%253Aaps%252Ck%253Atriple.fi%2B10&enc=1) which are high end for me as a non-audiophile and they have exposed just how shallow, thin and crummy most modern music is. Even albums with a lot of studio work like Lady Gaga sound like rock bottom crap compared to Pink Floyd Pulse. But I don't want to listen to Pink Floyd all the time, that's too depressing. I'd like to hear modern music done better. I don't think studios know how to turn out good music recordings anymore, or they just assume everyone will reencode everything at a low bit rate and lose most of the sound anyway. Maybe I'm getting old but most of the music today sucks. There aren't loud and quiet parts of the music, it's mostly just all loud with the occasional quiet intro.
-
I got to agree with you on how a lot of modern music sucks today. It's not just rock. A lot of country music today sucks too. It surprises me how much crap they call "country music" now.
-
Elbow's "The Seldom Seen Kid" is a beautiful album that'll regularly have me blubbing. If I had to pick one track it'd be Mirrorball.

Please post them. I only understand English, French and Mauritian Creole. Yet, I do like to listen to "what sounds great" to my ears. I like some Indian, Arabic, and other languages songs.

Most beautiful song ... hmm.
Should be either this:
Or this:
And just for Ripster:
Alison's version of a Plant song, from Viktor's album.
-
meets all of ripster's criteria except one, not a main character in the movie.
Thumbs up to elbow and nick drake, I'm a big fan of both.
-
There's no "Most beautiful" as all opinions differ, we may but offer what we enjoy.... here's some of mine....
"Mother, Wherefore Art Thou"..... Better to close your eyes and listen, hopefully you will hear a song.
No lyrics and lack of sight will enhance Music.
For my most Beloved Departed, with whom I shall soon be reunited, to continue our Dance.
Silly beggars upload to Youtube yet do not wish to fully share.
-
I think you meant "The Jesus and Mary Chain", and that song is used brilliantly in that movie. Wes Anderson and Bill Murray have both made some great movies in the last 10 years.
-
Guaranteed to bring tears to my eyes, every time.
Would be nice to Dance to Eternity and a Day.
-
speaking of Wes Anderson and great placement of songs with scenes for emotional effect...

I should have noted that it was only in this thread that I was being hesitant in that way.
Thus, on page 19 of the thread "What Genre of Music Do You Listen To?", I made reference to this Japanese song which impressed me very favorably:
There is a lot of other stuff in that thread, some very beautiful, and other items perhaps illustrative or humorous. Thus, another foreign-language item I posted to that thread was a Finnish-language version of "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini": entertaining, but I would not claim profound beauty for it.
For convenience, here are links to the four other major threads in this forum in which people have given examples of their favorite music:

Sorry to the OP, but that's too tear gland squeezy for me. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPjyQtWHbGQ) is from a beautiful soundtrack, I recommend listening to the main theme as well.

My definition of beautiful may differ from... most.

Some songs, of course, also went on to give rise to beautiful instrumental versions:
although they were beautiful when sung as well:

Since the imagery in the Pink Floyd video appeared to relate to the sufferings of Britain in World War II, I thought I would search for something positive:
I couldn't quite find what I was looking for, but this is nice music... and I was amused by reading the comments on the YouTube page as well.
-
I'll have that stuck in my head all day again now. :)
I don't know how to pick the most beautiful song ever, but these two came immediately to mind.
A short one: http://deviation.org/music/Cannonball_Adderley_Quartet_-_Yvette.mp3
And a long one:
(Sorry, couldn't find a YouTube link for Yvette, had to upload.)

Speaking of beautiful girl bands.
Apparently,
this Korean group is named Girls' Generation. This video is elaborate with some science-fiction themed sets.
