Hey geekhack! I'm Kai, sharing the upcoming new metal set from KEYMOJI.
We've always loved how The Lord of the Rings brings together adventure, ancient artifacts, and a world full of history. That got us thinking: what if we could bring a little of that fantasy atmosphere to our keyboards?
That's the idea behind this project — a 77-key aluminum keycap set inspired by The Lord of the Rings.
We're still at the Interest Check stage, and before moving forward with the preorder, we'd love to share what we're working on and hear what you think.
A little about the keycaps
We wanted these keycaps to feel a bit different from the usual plastic sets. Instead of going for a clean, futuristic look, we're aiming for something with more character — something that feels like it could have a story of its own.
Here's what we're working with so far:
77 keys – A curated set of metal keycaps for a distinctive keyboard build.
Aluminum alloy – Giving the set a solid metallic look and feel.
Anodized finish – Adding color while keeping the natural character of the metal.
Stonewashed treatment – Creating a worn, weathered finish with a rugged, vintage feel.
Embossed legends – Raised characters that add depth and texture to the design.
The stonewashed finish is one of the details we're particularly excited about. We like the idea of keycaps that don't look perfectly pristine, but instead have a slightly aged character — almost like something that has traveled across Middle-earth.
Of course, we'd love to hear whether you feel the same way!
