Title: Possible Cherry double shot donor $14 shipped
Post by: Pylon on Sun, 14 November 2010, 07:12:31
http://cgi.ebay.com/Cherry-MY-1800-D-91275-PS-2-POS-USB-Keyboard-BLACK-/380288627787?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item588af7f44b

The shot looks blurry, but the contrast, the rounded characters, and the Futura-like G point towards double shots.

Is it MX compatible?

Those ARE doubleshot keycaps ..

Most of the caps should fit, there may be problems with the stabilized ones ..
Note that this one doesn't have windows-keys, meaning it has large modifiers !

Also note that this is the 1800 layout, so the 0 key on the numpad won't fit most 'boards and the right Shift will be smaller, too.

Nah, too rich for my blood. I buy my new double shot key caps for $25 or fewer dollars per set. I have limits.

Cherry Corp doubleshots are ABS plastic so they don't last all that long.  I got a pretty used version once just to get some missing left shift key and after that it was all NIB donors for me.

It's a valid concern anytime you buy used Doubleshot keyboards - especially from a Point of Sales environment.  The get REAL shiny.

Compare with the NIB doubleshot key below.  Another tip - look for the oversized Tilde to confirm if doubleshot.

Stupid question, but can't you just sand blast them or something?

You will probably all consider this an even stupider question, but who cares if your keys get shiny?

I don't mind shiny keys.  In fact, sometimes I find it preferable.  It makes it easier to feel your way around without having to look down, and I think it looks good.  It breaks up the uniformity of looking at rows and rows of identical keys.

I find it hilarious that 1/2 of the forum is terrified of the print on the keys wearing off, while the other 1/2 will willing pay more money for a set of blank keys.  Oh, my god, my J and F keys have had their legends worn off! I don't know where they are!

Some people hate the feeling of typing on shiny keys, and oily shiny keys feel disgusting.
