After Naga Epic, and now this. The original nostromo, only with customizable buttons, and Razer's logo.
Gosh.

Well, it is good for places that didn't have the Nostromo from the beginning.
The only similar thing we have in Sweden is the Logitech G13(?)
And that was a ergonomic nightmare for me when i tried it.
BUT, if it uses Mech switches it would be godly awesome. But this is reality, and that means rubberdome.

Or you could do it like rippy did it. Mod it!
How much the original nostromo is?
-
some of us is'nt made to mod stuff... last time I tried, I started a fire and lost my eyebrows. And that was my Model M I Bolt modded, my ultrabudget dremel killed itself.
Had some cardboard to protect my table, I think you can figure out the rest xD

Yeah, not everyone is designed for engineering :( Including me. I don't even dare to open my Filco. *sigh*

i modded the nostromo to cherries in like 3hrs.
this was of course after i've had extensive modding a new keyboard so doing the nostromo was a cake walk.
btw from what everyone tells me the nostromo n52TE, the version with the razer software sucks and i'm sure this one continues to have the same sucky software.

Not sure what you mean by customizable buttons. It seems to be exactly the same product with a new logo.
The switches, while not mechanical, are good for gaming. You apply force, when it exceeds a certain value the dome collapses and the key moves down and actuates. When you reduce force below a certain level it springs back up to the top. It's very binary - either you're up or down, nothing inbetween. I've never had any problems with the switch response, and I've used mine heavily for years.

There have been at least 2 different versions of the n52te before this. I actually own 5 of these for my different computers. I've been buying them since they were released a couple years ago, and slowly outfitting all the computers I use. 2 of them are earlier ones and have more rounded usb plugs, and the backlighting isn't as blue as the later ones. Also pressure requirements are different. The later ones seem to require more pressure. In my opinion every computer should have one of these devices. It makes using photoshop, 3d graphics software, and pretty much any development application much easier to use, as well as being good for gaming.
All the keys have always been customizable, that's kind of the point of the device, so not sure what this version has that's different, except the new logo which basically just advertises what has always been the case, that it's razer onboard memory that's powering the te, as opposed to the earlier standard n52 that required a driver program to be installed in order for the device to work at all. Once you program the te, it can be plugged in without the driver and act as a standard keyboard with customized keys, in any computer with or without the driver.
The te has much nicer lighter keys than the original n52, which is what Ripster customized. Those keys are relatively crappy rubber domes compaired to the te.

The software is just to program it, and likely you will only use it once or twice until you figure out exactly what you want on each profile. I have one machine that I use to program all my n52te's, then just plug them into my other systems without any software at all. That's the point. The earlier versions are junk compared to the te. I owned 3 of those as well, and have completely taken them out of service because the TE is just so much better and beyond what they are.
One problem with these of course is that they're for righties only, so likely left handers are giving negative reviews. They do need to make a left hand and right hand version. If they did you could probably use them as an ergo split keyboard if you had both left and right hand versions.. lol

Lol, sorry. Didn't actually know what a nostromo is until several weeks ago. So its buttons are always able to be programmed by a software? I thought it's some kind of new "feature" that Razer gave.
So it's completely an ordinary rebranding. Wow.

Yes. The TE carries its programming with it. As well, you don't need software or drivers for it once you program it. You just plug it in and it self installs its own driver and its read to go, even with xp.

The old N52 could be used without drivers, but it defaulted to working as the left side of the keyboard (WASD etc.) The old software was more capable (four layers instead of three, for example.) The only reason I upgraded was that the keys and the scroll wheel used different HID drivers, and the scroll wheel kept becoming unresponsive on mine. The te's keys are definitely better, I'm not sure they are lighter though. Probably smoother would be a better description.
My te backlighting is getting more blue with age. I wonder why. I can't quite ... put my finger on it.
(It looks bluer than that in real life, hard to capture on camera.)

lol That's looking pretty used.
