Title: Memories of childhood
Post by: luoshuiyu on Tue, 30 November 2010, 03:50:32
Do you still remember the first video game from your childhood? I have been playing lots of games with my Tablet PC and smart phone recently and that has got my memories stirring. I’d like to share some of those memories with all of you guys.
First console that I ever got : Atari 2600

I played such classic games like Pone, Combat, Asteroids and Yar’s Revenge.

Ahhhh,

The philips videopack brings many fond memories to life....

What strikes me to this very day is the cost of the video pack games -> at that time they cost about 100 guilders which is about 50 euros. Same as today....

Regards.

We had a pong game.  Didn't use the paddles/dials...but used slider controllers.  I remember thinking it was the coolest thing I had ever seen.  :)

I also had the Sears-branded version of the 2600 (Sears "Intelligames" or something cheesy like that).

I had Pong and the Atari 2600 above.  I got a NES as my next system, but I never had a game system since then (other than a PC).  I played games on plenty of emulators, though.

I had Berzerk on the wood trim 2600. Winter and Summer games where the other two I remember. I hated Summer/Winter games.

My first gaming experiences were at my parent's friend's place on their Atari.  Not much later, I played some games on my uncles ColecoVision.  And not to long after that, we would get a ColecoVision of our own.  I still have it and it still worked the last time I tried it.  I only have the same 7 games we ever had for it: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Popeye, Q-bert, Frenzy, Omega Race, Space Fury.  We unfortunately never got the Atari module.

Space Wars. Imagine Asteroids with an opponnent.

We always selected options 9, 1, and 4 to achieve something like the following
(9) Black Holes, invisible suns affecting gravity
(1) Screen wraps, no Bounce Back on screen edge
(4) Inertia, and gravity

I never had video games as a child. No arcade, no game systems, no basement full of old PC's. Just a TV that got in 6 channels.

We had just 3 channels.  That's why we had a ColecoVision (with just 7 games.)

I was more of an outdoors kid anyway.

I'm not joking. I'm perfectly serious. I never even dreamed of video games when I was a kid.

I also had the original Magnavox "Pong" and later an Atari 2600.
Bought my daughter a Nintendo (the first one). I never had any other consoles and went to PC gaming only.

Apple ][+ oh yeah. And C64 after a while. Then an overclocked 286, running rock steady at a cool 11.4MHz. Even back then I understood the vast superiority of playing games on computers instead of buying into cheap**** consoles with piddly controllers.

Whatever that strange device is, it is awesomely obsolete!

Some kind of Nintendo precursor?
