Title: Who manufactured this computer?
Post by: Computer-Lab in Basement on Thu, 16 December 2010, 15:28:38
INTEL DESKTOP CORE 2 DUO/ 2.4GHz 1GB G1154290 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&hash=item230c84d6f8&item=150533887736&nma=true&pt=Desktop_PCs&rt=nc&si=V%252FwP%252Br4mvKL8iZ5OJrfjfNpP8kc%253D)

I bought this computer on eBay, I am going to fix it up and make it my main desktop, but I want to know if anyone here might be able to tell what company manufactured it? It says Intel, but I am not sure if Intel made complete computer setups like that or not. Any ideas?

Thats what I was thinking, I just wanted more opinions... Well I guess I will have to find out when I get it, shipping from Arizona I might just get it in time for Christmas.

Motherboard has integrated graphics...means it probably really sucks.  I suppose it's a step up from a 486 though. lol

Intel did make some really stable/solid c2d motherboards though.

The vent fan indicates a bad/underpowered heatsink and probably a proprietary mobo.

The big round thing on the side makes me think it might be a DELL.

That round thing is a fan grill.  That case does not match up with Dell's style.  Probably a cheapass local computer store build, who knows what's inside.

Not custom, but likely some cheap-brand... Hard to say pictures are quite bad and it's bit higher than normal SFFs would be... Acctualy it's mid-tower, now that I looked back side... PSU looks like normal one...

I see a DELL logo on it in the first picture...

Yuck.

You should have bought something more like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Lenovo-Intellistation-M-Pro-Core-2-Duo-2-4GHz-/270680276651?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item3f05cd3eab (http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-Lenovo-Intellistation-M-Pro-Core-2-Duo-2-4GHz-/270680276651?pt=Desktop_PCs&hash=item3f05cd3eab)

Mmmmm, yummy.

Although I don't know why they put "lenovo," lenovo never had anything to do with the intellistation lines (although lenovo did steal the cases and inverted the vent to ATX for thinkcentres during a brief period).

That thing definitely isn't a Dell. I recognize the logo on the case as being some manufacturer of small form factor cases (cant remember the name), and it's definitely a custom/small company made machine.

Not too bad for $65 though.

Agreed. It makes perfect sense to spend over twice as much because it has an IBM logo on it.

Agreed.  I am more of a Dell guy, not by choice, but that's because it's all I can find.  Dells are great machines, they are reliable and last a long time.  However, nothing beats an IBM Model M keyboard...

Uh... IBM adds WAY more stuff in the BIOS, twice as many ports, and they have all the drivers, schematics, updates, and everything all in one spot organized properly. Oh and the cases are just awesome (I was glad when they had little drive rails snapped in there so you could stick them on FDDs or HDDs and slide them into empty bays).

It kind of looked like a dell logo to me at first, maybe not? We'll just have to see when C.L.I.B. gets it. It does have the same amount of characters as the dell logo, and the first letter does look like a D.

That thing is so vague it could be anything.

On the other hand, Dell logos are always more prominent. The case is not the style of any Dell case, and the trimmings (such as the removable motherboard port backplate and side fan) suggest that it's not a Dell case.
