Hello,
I have just been introduced to the wonderful world of mechanical keyboards. To be honest, I have never even used one that I can remember..well maybe one time when I was around 7, but I don't think that really counts. So first off, I am new through and through so hopefully I will be in for a great surprise!
I am thinking about getting one with blue switches only because I am guessing I would like a tactile feel and I don't think I would like some that are extremely easy to press down, but in all honesty, I really I have no idea. I could end up hating the noise or the tactile feel or whatever. I just don't know.
The only thing I can go on is that I have a $20 Microsoft keyboard right now and I type faster and like the feel more of the standard dell keyboards that are out currently. I also think that I type faster on a laptop keyboard. That was is a scissor switch keyboard and so if it is close to a brown, blue, orange, purple, rainbow then so be it. Just telling you guys so you can give me some advice. Again, I don't know if this helps at all, but if it does great!
Now my price is somewhat low since I am new and just want to get a feel (yes, I made a pun) for the board. Maybe later I might get a HHKB or something, but currently it is around $130. Now, I have been trying to do some myself some due diligence and I know that the $130 price range you can get a DAS, Filco maybe?, Leopold whenever it comes out or maybe some others.
I really don't know how great all of these are or if I should order one now and not wait for the Leopold or what. I am not limiting the choices to the aforementioned, I was just giving an idea of what I have been seeing as a trend. Any other keyboards that fit that will be considered and appreciated.
I think that is it for now. I am really excited to see what the talk is all about and I just want the best bang for my buck I guess. I am excited to see what you guys come up with!
Thanks :)

You could also get a Unicomp Customizer, a Noppoo Choc Mini, or several used IBMs on ebay.
The latter might be your best bet, considering the price of them. You can sometimes get them for as little as $20 shipped.
Oh, and if you do decide on the Das, and you are a student, don't forget about the discount! Saves you 24%, and they ship for free to the CONUS.
And welcome to geekhack!

For the price, I'd say pick up some used Cherry boards on ebay... You could likely get 3 boards and have a chance to try out blues, blacks, and browns before you commit to a single expensive board. Then, just sell off any you don't like in the classifieds here, and you've got a switch type that you like to help you narrow down your options.
For me, browns don't feel significantly lighter than blues, but I dislike the click, and I'm one of the few people that doesn't game well with blues. I find them both to be a bit easier to press than a good membrane keyboard, but not so much lighter that it's frustrating, they have a great feel. I don't like the heavier feel of blacks/clears, it's just too much effort to type on.

I'm waiting for the Leopold on elitekeyboards.com... which should be in a month or so.
which country you in?

I am in the US :)
I heard that they are better than the filco, but I don't know. I don't even know if the Filco is better than the Das or what :/

If you guys want to try a switch in the US, go to Fry's and try the Steelseries 7G, which is a black switch. Or if you get lucky and have a store that carries the Razer Blackwidow around, that's blue. No retail presence for the brown switch though.

I will go to best buy right now and see!!!!! I don't have a fry's close to me :(

I can bust out some good wpm's with my Filco Cherry MX blue, RIP, and with a Unicomp Spacesaver... Clicky keyboards rock... May buy one of those Leopolds when Majestouch unveils them thangs...

If BestBuy doesn't carry it locally, you can always order it online (though OOS now) and return locally if you don't like it :)

Looks like Best Buy closes at 7 today..which is 2 minutes away..I will go tomorrow I guess.
I still don't know if Filco or Das is better or if Das is any good at all?
