Post by: hfcobra on Mon, 10 January 2011, 23:05:34
When will these be in stock anyways?   Also, just to clarify, they will have the Brown, Blue, and Black switches and both tenkeyless and full size keyboards available?

Is there hope of non-printed keys?

I really cant wait any longer!   this is driving me nuts   :P    Looked on the leopold site and from what I could tell they do not even sell full size leopolds  :(

but i dont read korean so i was just using the pretty pictures

Ha! Never saw that side of the Jumper picture before.

On topic like, someone said that they do have a 104 key version, but very confusingly gave it the same model number, FC200R. I think it was in the other Leopold thread (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=13258) somewhere.

I'm in the same boat. I want a full size with brown switches and to get a filco shipped to the US is around $185~. Too much imo. I want a full size one around $120ish that isn't a das. To hear that it isn't likely to have leopolds full size boards is a disappointment.

I just ordered a filco full sized with brown switches off armygroup. @ $169 shipped to the US after shipping, it is pretty steep. But I wanted it. I didn't feel like waiting another month to see IF EK would get full sized browns in.

I noticed the same thing this morning.  When nobody could find a full-sized Leopold keyboard, I was going to be all bad-ass and be like, "It's right here, *****es, eat it," but when I went to their site, they were gone.  Oh well, ruined my morning.

I paid around $165 total, arrived fast. They got stuck in customs for 2 days, though.

So far, my initial thoughts (are probably similar to what sixty posted)...but noticeably: keycaps are more textured and the modifier keys are slightly harder to depress because they contain different stabilizers than FILCO keyboards. The Archiss key caps provide more of a "feel", rather than the flat FILCO caps that become glossy after using them for a week.

Corners of the keyboards are rounded...initially I did not take note of it, nor  cared for it, but it does seem to affect the overall feel of the keyboard. The edges just feel more comfortable to touch when I'm tapping the sides of the keyboard.  (Again, this may be a completely psychological thing and won't affect the operation of the keyboard.)

The brown switches themselves feel a little tight and slightly more harder to depress than my FILCO browns.  Upon closer inspection, the brown switch itself from the FILCO looks lighter than the one of my Archiss.

$165? was that due to international shipping? i've been holding out for the leopold to hit EK but i'm also trying to keep close to the $100 price point. i'd pull the trigger on the rosewill rk-9000 but i would love for newegg or chiefvalue to have a discount again.

thanks for offering your opinions about your archiss

Loyal folks love waiting for EK! I admit I'm waiting for EK to carry them (and more clickclack keys). The ems shipping charges have been a killer for me. I calculated I've spent $100+ on shipping alone (China/Japan/Taiwan).

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking... I'm not that great in Korean, but I can give it a shot.

If it's about the availability of the full-size FC200R; it's possible that they existed, but that Leopold no longer sells them due to lack of demand or something. They're not listed in Leopold (http://leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/list.php&ca_id=1010 (http://leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/list.php&ca_id=1010)) nor gmarket (http://english.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_seller_collection/seller_collection_main.asp?cust_no=108744002); only the tenkeyless versions are.

When I first started geehkack, if you wanted a tenkeyless with blue cherrys, you had to search for the elusive SMK-88 with blues.  You pretty much were stuck with a full-sized 'board otherwise.  Now you can hardly find a full-sized and the tenkeyless options are plentiful!

So if anyone reads Korean is the feature list the same?  Similar but the feet are a bit different.

Why do Koreans like these Monster Jpegs so much?  Hard to run through Google transate.

I wish I had (though I don't know how to do that either).  I spent all morning figuring out how to order through rakuten and set up a Japanese address.

Experience with rakuten thus far:
1. First order cancelled because I didn't know the shop didn't ship overseas.
2. Second order cancelled (?) because my bank thought there was fraudulent activity going on (I made some big purchases consecutively, ala college textbooks lol).
3. Third order pending... Do I get a tracking number later?

I'm a little worried I might have ordered two keyboards because I never received an email that the second order was cancelled. I called my bank to inform them all these purchases were legit and they said they cancelled payment for the keyboard so I would have to order it again.
:boom:

EDIT: Order just got cancelled for what I think is an OOS problem. There was only one left when I ordered. FML.

EDIT #2: Received another email saying my order has been sent today. I'm assuming this is to the middleman address before it's shipped overseas. Google Translate isn't very good...

Brian from EK said they are scheduled to arrive in February.  He did not say when in February they were going to be available, though.

I don't mean this in a harsh or pointed way but I've personally done this dance before far too many times in the past with various products and my gut is telling me that if I really want to get a Mechanical keyboard and I'm ready to buy now I may as well buy something now and finish it vs. waiting on these.

EK typically gets what they say they will.  They have a habit of under-promising and over-delivering.  That said, there are other outlets to buy from, so if you have the itch and someone has your product in stock, jump on it.

Eric, I hear you man.  That's what I was thinking when I posted it.  BUT, I'll always give a company a chance.  They say something, then come through.  It builds loyalty big time with me.  Otherwise...     I'd agree with you.

Fair enough.

Sure. :)

For me what I'm still kind of debating is going tenkeyless or not. I'm all but certain I'm going MX blue.

Right now my almost finished MS Ergo takes up about 18.5 inches on width.

If I snapped a photo of what my setup looks like I think just about everyone would agree I probably need more space.

There are a few non tenkeys like the Rosewill that go down to 17.5 inches and that inch would even be nice. Heck, even the Das is .5 inches less in width.

The tenkeys would be awesome down to about 14 in width. I've thought about it and I really don't think I'd ever miss the number pad portion at all. I rarely if ever use it.

So there we are. If I want tenkeyless it shrinks the list down considerably and especially if I want tenkeyless blue. Tenkeyless blue is a pretty small list.

That means either wait or import unless I'm missing something. So there I am.

More than anything, I am waiting to see if there will be any full layouts with the new product launch.  I use the numpad a lot, but it seems that Leopold/Archiss only has a tenkeyless model.

Feels like some of the information is conflicting.

I don't want to make my own thread for just this quick blurb but if anyone wants to look at the attached photo of my current setup I think you can see where I'm all but convinced that I "need" to go tenkeyless. Maybe not.  I don't want to derail this thread, either, so apologies in advance if that's the case.

Tenkeyless or buy a new table and put in custom Lee Valley sliders and piece of plywood.

This is brand new and awfully nice furniture so I guess that answers that. :)

I just received confirmation for two Archiss/Leopolds. Shipping is ~$65 for each... Is there no way to cancel at this point? The items are in warehouse waiting for payment before shipping to the States.

EDIT: I can have them packaged together for [strike]$93.61[/strike] instead. Still, that's literally like buying another keyboard. I'm so newbie.

EDIT 2: I calculated the consolidated shipping wrong. It's actually 8880 yen, or ~$108.41.

My wife does that.  Makes me chase after waiters to change her order.

Then it arrives and she says, "I shoulda ordered what you got".

I f'ing hate that.  My GF does the same thing.

Chicken, want to go in on half and lesson the shipping?  I can pay you up front/however via paypal.  so each probably would cost 145 instead of 165.

Cyberphine - yes we can work something out. the actual shipping turned out higher than what i calculated this morning (messed up the math somewhere), but is still slightly cheaper than before. it's 155 each now

lol sorry for hijacking your thread, cobra. i had to go through the early posts to remember what this was really about. anyway, it should be noted that the "$108 shipped" price an earlier poster quoted getting a filco/leopold/archiss for was purchased inland Japan. he informed me that he had a friend in japan at the time who was returning to USA so that's why he wasn't stuck with a $165 price after shipping/add.fees.

I have my fingers crossed that this keyboard will be well worth it and last me an eternity--or until i cave and want more keyboards O_O

yea, i thought one would be enough too.... now i sold my keyboard and i am planning on buying 2 more Leopolds when EK gets them in stock.  Its ok btw, i just thought it was funny how far off topic the thread had gone!   :P

I wish I had ordered a blue and a brown instead of two blues. At least I'd know which one I would prefer (first time mecher here) and sell the other one. But the deed's been done and now I must wait for my two Cherry MX Blue Archisses to arrive. That'd be real funny if I just kept both O_O

Does anyone know how long tenso.com takes to ship from Japan to California/US?

alright, a little more on topic here.  Anyone heard anything about when the Leopolds are supposed to go up for sale?   I subscribed to the newsletter but have not gotten anything in the Inbox yet at all.   Now that i am typing on this membrane keyboard, i am reminded of how much i miss my blues.

'Bout to start singin' the blues about not having my blues   :(

Sweet mouse bungiee.  I need to rig something like that up for myself.  Ever since I moved my rig to the floor, from my desktop it eats up most of the slack.

Here is a little tid-bit that is actually on topic. While EK doesn't have the Leopolds yet, some of their information has been updated to show it. See this passage from their FAQ.

http://www.elitekeyboards.com/support.php?lang=en#1a

It talks about which switches you might want with your Leopold keyboard.

Oh and I love that bit with the clips. Totally going to start doing that for cables I have to plug and unplug fairly often.

Will the Leopolds be sold in full 104 key configuration? I sometimes do data entry for experiments, and if they don't I'll probably buy a rosewill instead and call it a day.

J88w asked about that but I couldn't find it anywhere - spring loaded clip.  It's just from a Hallmark cards or some office place.

This is another awesome tip.

Optical audio cables might still slip through!

In other news, seems like the fullsized Leopolds are now arriving in Korea. Seen some reviews. Maybe Majestouch is waiting for a delivery of those to his place too, so he can offer all boards again.

For those who keep asking about the availability of Red switches, I think this is your matter-of-fact answer.
