Neat, custom keyed call center keyboard apparently. My guess at a glance was going to be trading center, but a closer look at what was actually printed on the keys and googling the company name reveals it's a call center.

AT DIN to PS2 connector already on it, too. Look at the shift/control placement. It's definitely a novelty, but I can't tell if certain keys like shift/control were moved too far to be comfortable for normal use. Very interesting, I'd seen it before in a search but had passed over it without looking closer... I wonder if it's someone here who has a bid in already?

Just a warning, I'm not going to let anyone else have this one. I got a check with that board's name on it.

Seriously. If anyone bids it up really high, I swear I'll hunt you down.

"But why are you bumping it?"

Because I know you're already sniping it.

Be happy he isn't accepting overseas bids :'(

I expect some sexy unboxing+cleaning shots of it!

I vote that people from Germany cannot complain about availability of vintage cherry keyboards :P

I also have some information on this board that isn't public knowledge, and I won't divulge it unless I win. ;) I can tell you that those special functions are all software based however.

Nice board, I won't fight you for it. Got too many incoming atm.

Hmm.... Let me do the mental calculations.  Phaedrus rarely bids that high so I think I got a number...

Last time I outbid Kishy I did it for the lulz but that ended up getting me a Focus 2001 for a total cost less than shipping.

Never underestimate a geek with a fresh deposit in his account looking to buy his first uber-rare keyboard of the year.

Maybe you can outbid me, but it won't be cheap.

You know, it's sad when one share of a company won't buy one of its entry level products. It's like one share of Apple equals 80% of an iPhone.

You know, my opinion on the iPad hasn't really changed. It's still a worthless piece of crap, though much much prettier than what I usually leave in the can. Rather, it's a toy. It's fun, but not useful. If you have a smartphone and a laptop then you have no need for a tablet as it fills both roles, badly.

I posted this on OTD earlier today, didn't see it was posted here too. Expect some serious competition.

Anyway, I'm guessing there is a chance it uses transparent case MX blacks, it looks very similar to my Nixdorf board in terms of layout.

I need a password to get into OTD.

But then, given my sense of humor this may not be a good idea.

What do they think of Webwit though?

Actually we have both been invited to Korea to attend to their offline meeting! Soju and doubleshots, that is how we roll.

(i'm serious)

Also, I can't contact the seller because he does not ship internationally. Someone in the US do it and ask him to pull a keycap. Putting 1 clear case mx switch on the line that it will be MX clear switches. Anyone up for a bet?

Anyone know of a good way of making the caps unshiny without sand blasting ?

Impossible. I kinda like the shiny beige colored Cherry keys though. Nice and smooth.

Sandpaper. Though worked poorly on my Quietkey (got all scratchy).

Or you could spray it with some sort of matte coating that will wear off real soon.

I contacted the seller and he just replied me that it is black switches. Good luck!

Well the switches of course are black, since the 3000 series model number is very accurate. But what about the switch cases!

Two more just appeared from the same seller, one starting at $20, the other starting at $69. Obviously this guy has lots of these and is trying to dial in on a good "buy it now" price.

It's fun, but not useful. If you have a smartphone and a laptop then you have no need for a tablet as it fills both roles, badly.

That's because it's not a traditional "tablet" but instead a "web pad." And it IS useful, in the same way that mp3 players and similar portable media players are. It's basically a media consumption (including web pages) device that can do a bit more in terms of (somewhat kludgy) input, with a screen that's a better size for viewing things like text than your average smartphone/PMP.

Proper tablets are a class of their own, and have a ton of utility for their intended usage scenarios. IMO if it doesn't have inking ability with handwriting recognition/storage (among with some more nebulous criteria), it's not really a proper modern tablet, and doesn't really fulfill the uses a "tablet computer" excels at. I think the IPad is incredibly overpriced for what it's good for (maybe not quite so badly for aesthetics... most of it is trading on branding though, I think), personally, but that doesn't mean it has no utility. Of course it also doesn't mean it fits into the "proper" tablet computer segment, really. It's sort of an odd in-between device, to me.

You can take my mechanical keyboards, but you'll have to pry my tablet from my cold dead hands =^,^= There are certain situations where you want the power of a laptop, but the kludgy opened form factor is just *so* fail. I've been waiting for something like the IPad to create a consumer drive for the tablet/pad form factor for years, I'm really hoping it will drive down the cost on real tablets too, at least down closer to where similarly specced laptops are. It's stayed fairly strong as a niche product for quite some time, especially in the healthcare field, but the prices have been respectively high.

Anywho, did you win your auction, Phaedrus? Are you ready to spill about why you think these cherries are special? ^,^

I sniped for $45; it sold for $46. Durp. Of course, there was probably some lunatic from OTD bidding $500 or something. Or maybe Ripster bidding one share of AAPL like he claimed. Whatever, I'll try for the second one and bid a bit more; or maybe I'll go for that cheap MX8000 instead.

So what was the secret about these boards?

PS: I don't think OTD was very interested, since the seller does not allow for any foreign bidding, or even foreign contact/questions. Anyone to blame for the price raise is most likely to be found on this forum.

Also $45 is a bit greedy for a rare vintage board, especially after it has gained public exposure on 3 forums. You should not expect to get it for that low.

I didn't expect it to get exposure on three forums. When I set my snipe it had exposure on zero.

Not me.  I was only interested in a couple of the keys.   Anyway,  I'm distracted testing out some ClickClack prototypes.

Is that a double/triple-shot pool ball?
Title: Some weird G80 w/ doubleshots
Post by: theferenc on Tue, 18 January 2011, 07:15:33
I actually have a lot of old pool balls that are "double shot". They really are inset molded, but usually with 4 sections (main ball, ring around number, color inside ring, number). I don't know if ripster's is that way or not. Well, clearly no ring.
