Title: [.UK] Access-IS keyboards, lot of 6, used
Post by: Zen on Wed, 19 January 2011, 13:51:28
6 used Access-IS keyboards with mag card reader and funky custom-keys .
Starting-bid .99p for the lot !!
They are most likely plate-mounted Cherry Blacks, that's what all other Access keyboards I've seen use .

I wouldn't mind buying a few and pay for the postage ...

What is it with sellers and not posting? Grrr. 6 keyboards are not heavy, whatever they are. Parcels limit is 30kg or so!

I might be able to grab these and dish them out, I'd only want to be left with 1 or 2 though :-)

And I don't mind if you make a modest profit !!

I would send a courier, it's too far for me to go, so there's that cost as well. I don't think it would cost a lot though.

Maybe we can combine shipping if this happens. Would save us a few Euros even with you shipping one to me or me shipping one to you afterwards. Royal Mail is freaking expensive to Germany.

I'll let you guys work that one out :-)

A Filco tenkeyless to Poland cost me a bit less than £10 to send, IIRC. These may be heavier, but not significantly.

i wrote to the seller.
he uptdated the offer.

every keyboard weighs 2,4 kg and he will use Royal Mail.
i check the price for 18 kg (kbd plus package) and the costs are 62,5GBP for shipping only, perhaps i make false entries....

To those that are interested, I would be willing to buy the lot and ship them all individually. Conditioned on enough interests and that I will cover my expenses. Let me know via PM or reply before auction ends and hopefully I will be able to get them. Also what are the prices people have in mind for each? Knowing it will allow me to decide how much to bid for them.
Title: [.UK] Access-IS keyboards, lot of 6, used
Post by: Soarer on Thu, 20 January 2011, 12:45:38
Royal Mail is never the cheapest option for more than a couple of kilos.

I could get them from him to me for about £7 (HDNL).

Then from UK to Germany for about £22 to £26 (DHL Europlus is the cheapest). They appear to be fixed rate prices, because 12kg costs the same as 18kg.

edit:
I'm happy to do them individually as well, but it probably wouldn't be economic for the German buyers - I don't know how much it would cost you to send each within Germany...?

And... I would like one for myself. :)

Well seeing as you know roughly how much I'm will to put down I can't see the point bidding against you and needlessly driving the price up, so I'll leave it to you and wish you luck!

So now there are more takers than keyboards (!).
Another option would be to ship only the keycaps (for those who only want the keycaps).

Does anyone want just a keyboard with no caps?

Post by: Findecanor on Fri, 21 January 2011, 04:16:23
I have been on the edge of writing "I want one too", mostly because of the blue Enter key, but also because of the programmability. But then I got thinking...
Different caps on different keyboards have different height and profile.
The layout on this board is a bit weird, and may not line up correctly with what you already have.
For instance, the alphanumeric keyboard is one key less wide than on most boards -- you won't even get a full set of alphanumerics for a typical board.
On the Access keyboards, the 2.0 wide keys, such as Backspace, numpad-0 etc are often keys that span two switches: these will fit no other brand keyboard that I know of.

One thing that _cannot_ happen is that the thread derails into mentioning Hitler, we do not get organized before the auction ends, and we all miss out on an excellent batch of quality boards.

I volunteer to act as a hub for Germany, in any case. Although maybe sixty wants to, because he'll have to ship springs and other things to some of us soon anyway. Whatever works...

OK, go ahead and grab these!

I would recommend that the keyboards are split in a 'first come, first serve' way:

2. Soarer

4. CeeSA
5. squarebox

I was gutted when my normal Access ebay search finally turned up something new (over the ones that are always there) then a few days later its posted here.

But then after reading this thread again and seeing it descend into name calling and people wanting the caps and even just one cap in some cases what is the point.
These are great boards, might be a bit big if I have the model numbers right, but no matter.

I only wanted one and was going to let the others go here for the cost of the boards plus the £10~12 delivery quote I got.

Nice to see the OCN people spending their time here.

Lets see how it goes.

Did not see the point, I have more Access boards than I can use and those ones will not fit on this desk without me moving the monitors out, I was just going to get them and put the rest here with a nod to the people who have done me a favour with the last few boards I got from here.

Then I saw the way the thread was going and thought do some of this lot even deserve them if they only want one, or some key caps and are calling each other school yard names.
So I would put a token bid in at what I think one is worth.

If you want to spend (£10 quid more) more than that there are much better Access boards than them on ebay, I know I have one.

You were a prick and a SNAG but that can't lead me to the conclusion that you hate jews?

Same seller? Then, yeah.

They arrived today. But only 5 of them, not 6. He didn't mention that until after they'd been collected. The packing wasn't brilliant, but ok.

Still, they're fairly clean, some keys a bit shiny (mostly down arrow and enter), and at least one of them works fine. I'll test the rest later.

Does it use cherry blacks?

It would be very easy to name that layout...  The first word that sticks would describe it nicely.

Switches? Cherry?

Also, you should give him a really very negative feedback, if he does not refund the price for the missing keyboard.

Cherry blacks, diodes, plate mounted.
The wide baby blue keys are actually the number row (0..9).
There is no numlock key.
The wide keys in the right hand half of the keyboard are covering 2 keys, so that's a 9x7 grid there all told.
Shift does not send a scancode when pressed by itself.
Presumably all reprogrammable with the right software (http://www.access-is.com/softprog_pos_keyboard.php (http://www.access-is.com/softprog_pos_keyboard.php)).

Obviously the layout needs some work to make it useful... but I'm liking the idea of pushing the symbols up and out of the main typing area... mentally at least: my muscles probably have different ideas!

If anyone doesn't want those symbol keys - particularly the ones with pairs of brackets - I'd really like more of them!!! And I'm sure I could find something to make a deal with :-)

Basically I guess we go down the list (although Zen seems to have disappeared...).

Let's try to get it worked out where they're going by the end of the weekend... any more squabbles and I'm keeping them all :-)

Oh... prices will be without any real profit, but I'll round up to the nearest £... so I might get a pint out of it! Basically £7 each plus postage, I think. If no-one objects, I'll also pocket the £4 partial refund I've asked for... if it turns up.

Cherry blacks, diodes, plate mounted.
...
Oh... prices will be without any real profit, but I'll round up to the nearest £... so I might get a pint out of it! Basically £7 each plus postage, I think. If no-one objects, I'll also pocket the £4 partial refund I've asked for... if it turns up.

Great!

You must pocket the £4 because you can sell us only 4 instead of 5 keyboards, so it's your money anyway!

Thanks for getting these for us!

Actually that's included in the £7 :-) ... which would've been £6 :-(

Sorry for the delay, I finally got a chance to test them (all good!), and check out some postage prices...

The bad news: postage for 1 keyboard to Germany would be £21 (they are 2.2kg each).
The good news: postage for 3 keyboards to (a single address in) Germany is the same price.

To a UK address would be about 7 or 8 quid (no surprises there).

The really bad news: postage to Singapore would be £37!

I'm assuming that Zen has left us, so... sixty, 7bit, CeeSA, squarebox... what do you guys think about the postage?

[ I really don't mind if any of you want to drop out, I can just carry on down the list :-) ]

Yep, you'd be next in line I think.

OK. That was the cheapest sensible method I could find, which is DHL booked through an agent. Not so sensible is splitting the keyboard into two packages, which gets both under the magic 2kg limit - airmail might then be about £30, or surface mail about £17 (if you can wait 3 months for it to arrive!). If you can find a good way to ship it that'd be great!

Thanks again for your efforts.
I have checked several freight forwarders to Singapore, they charge about £30.

But they are located at
- Kingston Business Park, Milton Keynes
or
- Haydock Industrial Estate, Haydock ST HELENS, Merseyside

If they are too far from you, just stick to your shipping method. Save the trouble for you :)

If CeeSa and 7bit agree, I will gladly take the boards if we split shipping costs.

I've PM'd 7bit to check that's good with him also.

Can one of you check how much postage would be within Germany?
With packing, one board comes to around 2.5kg, perhaps a little more if the box is larger.

Just received it.

Great packing.

F4 isn't doubleshot... It's lasered like half of the keys.

Circled the ones that are double shot, the rest are lasered w/ infill.

Biggest bummer... A broken switch that was superglued back...
Ebay seller broke a key while refurbishing it?

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed. It wouldn't be so bad if the ebay seller didn't use super glue. Now the broken half is stuck permanently.

I'm really very sorry to read all that. I'm sorry I hadn't checked which keys were doubleshot. I particularly wish I'd noticed the botched up key before I forwarded it on to you (I can assure you it was nothing I did). If you like, I can swap the F4 and F1 (?) keys off my board for you, and also send a good black stem. Or we can discuss some other recompense. Please PM me.

Shame the arrow keys aren't double shot - they're double shot on every access keyboard I've touched.

Some interesting punctuation characters, though.

Got these today, thanks Soarer. Interestingly enough the double shot keys on some of these are entirely different.

The F4 key is double shot on all three boards I got from Soarer, the numpad area is on none. Quite the opposite of the board squarebox got actually. The Capslock key is actually TRIPLE SHOT (http://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=348).
