Title: Question For Keyboard Pros
Post by: colorcutclarity on Fri, 21 January 2011, 16:13:59
I'm in the market right now to get a ducky from China. I'm at a site where I can buy one and have one question.

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=8164287464

If you go to that link and  see the images at the bottom, I see a picture with some keycaps off, there are blue, brown and black switches all on one board. Is that how they come? I'm specifically interested in getting a blue and brown version and have no clue if they come mixed?

Yeah, someone around here has/had a mixed cherry board.

Do you know if this Taobao site is like an ebay of some sort or is it a store?

It's chinese ebay. You're better off with PCHome or Armygroup, honestly. Cheap shipping, people here have been happy with them. And, most importantly, you can purchase directly from them, which you usually can't do with taobao, unless you happen to have a unionpay card, or a chinese bank account.

Well, my mom does business with some people in China (specifically Shehnzen & Hon Kong area) and I was gonna have them pick me 2 boards. I'm gonna give those sites a look.

It's doing it again, pictures of a keyboard with multiple variations of switches? I want a brown version only? Is that too much to ask!

I would like someone to explain the advantages or disadvantages the multi-color-switches bring. I saw someone in the classifieds
selling one just like the one I linked. Are they any good for gaming?

104 Key Brown (http://shopping.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=AHAB9H-A50372373&SR_NO=AHAB9H&ROWNO=15)

108 Key Brown (http://shopping.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=AHAB9H-A50302480&SR_NO=AHAB9H&ROWNO=9)

And, they don't seem to have any left that are english only. The ones they have are Chinese lettered, as well as english. Just look at the pictures, you'll get the idea.

They do have a brown tenkeyless english only (http://shopping.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=AHAB9H-A50237326&SR_NO=AHAB9H&ROWNO=11), though. But based on the link you supplied, you want the full sized one.

Edit: ninja'd by laden. My chinese is a bit slow, and I didn't think of using a translator. Oh well.

Edit 2: And apparently they have a much wider selection on the global.pchome.com.tw site, rather than shopping.pchome.com.tw. Use laden's links, if you want a larger selection.

From what I can tell:
Advantage: Getting to try all three popular cherry switches in one keyboard
Disadvantage: Typing on it is probably a BIT weird :D

No clue if they're any good for gaming.

Well, they are blocked. The alphanumeric block is brown, the modifiers and space are black, and the navigation and number pad are blue.

I don't see what would be weird about it, since you are generally not mixing switches, except for modifiers, which isn't that big of a deal.

But then, I do'nt like cherry switches, so I could just be completely off base in my thoughts on this.

I would think the modifiers + space being blacks would make it weird to type on. If I were to design it, I'd make them brown as well and only the F keys blacks.

Fair enough. I was just thinking they were black to prevent accidental presses or some such. And space bars are often heavier, after all.
