I have been eyeing the beautiful Filco keyboards on Elite KB for more than a year now and I just decided today I was going to finally get one. You can imagine my disappointment when I learned they no longer offer them for sale. :frown:
If anyone can knows where I can get one I would be eternally grateful :hail:

Thanks I checked out armygroup, looks like they have them, yay! Is there any English version of their site? Also I can't find an English only version of the Filco keyboards, they seem to be bilingual only? E.g.:

This guy seems to have been able to find an English-only version: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=14528, Hmm...
I'm looking for the same keyboard by the way, Filco brown full-size, w/ N-rollover, English-only.

This should be what you're after.

Looks like it will come to $4833 which apparently is about $166 USD. Is that a good price? Seems pretty steep...
-
For a filco, shipped internationally, that is a good price.
Look at it this way: assuming you don't abuse it or pour liquid in it, this is a keyboard that will last you for years.
Assuming they over-estimate switch lifetime by 100%, it still takes quite some time to push a key 25 million times. To put it in perspective, if you pushed the key once per second, every second, it would still take over 9 months (for reference, there are approximately \pi * 10^7 seconds in a year).
Now, the average person doesn't hit their keyboard that frequently, especially for that long. So you're still looking at something that should last for 4-5 years, if not more than a decade.
And you can swap key caps, if you don't like them or want a change, they are easy to clean, etc.
So no, not steep at all, if you put it in perspective.

Considering the other options of getting a new filco, that is a pretty good price. Or lurk the classifieds, filcos come up every now and then.

Okay thanks guys. Just put in my order. Hopefully the keyboard will be able to find its way to me across the ocean.
Painful price but I think it will be a very welcome change from my Apple chiclet keyboard which is giving me carpel tunnel.
-
Those apple keyboards are terrible. You will love the filco no doubt!
-
Ooh those are pretty!
I am definitely extremely excited to get the Filco! I think I gave the Apple KB a fair chance for several months when I got my new computer but at this point, at least in my humble opinion, mechanical keyboards are still the best and most comfortable if you need to do any serious typing or gaming.
-
What Mechanical keyboard did you have before? Apple?
I had the Model M, or a variant, not sure the exact model since I don't have it anymore. It was the regular beige color. I had the Din-to-PS/2 connector so I could use it with my modern PC. The keyboard I have now is the current-gen Apple Wireless Keyboard which came with my new computer. Can't say I'm a huge fan of it! I donated my old keyboard when I got this system, now kicking myself for not hanging onto it longer.

I recently went from a g15 to a brown switch filco from armygroup. I say go for it if you have the money to spend. Here is what the board looks like with the caps on:

Hey cool pic. I definitely like this keyboard's 'all-business/no-frill' look. I'm assuming you're in the US, how long did it take to get your order?
-
I ordered the tenkeyless browns from the Armygroup. Still waiting to receive mine :)
There's a guide here to order from armygroup. VERY helpful
Now I hope I can get those doubleshot keys in! MMMM
-
5 business days to get to my place in tennessee. Keep in mind it was also in the process of being shipped across the US over the weekend as well.
-
I also bought one. Still waiting on mine. All I see is delivery status "Stocking in the". Which I am assuming it hasn't been shipped yet. Who knows. Sent a message yesterday, but hadn't heard back yet.
-
My order status says it's "Stocking in the " the automated translation is extremely dodgy, hard to tell what's going on exactly. How did you guys enter your addresses on their order forum? I'm crossing my fingers I entered it right, they only had one line for foreign addresses so I just entered the whole thing like 123 Main Street, City, ST, 12345-7890.

thinking of ordering one from the keyboard company rather than waiting for leopolds to get in stock. glad someone posted a website I can order from AND can read.
curse my monolingualism.
edit - I guess it'll be a race between the keyboard company getting the filco blues back in stock and the leopolds getting stocked. I don't want to change my mind on that just to get one sooner.

Nice avatar! Arrested development rocks!
-
thank you very much! it does indeed :D
-
it makes me nervous to order from a website I can't read
not that I don't trust it or something I just expect myself to make a mistake
