Hi, what's you preferred pointing device that you use with Kinesis Advantage keyboard?
-
Right now I'm using the IBM Scrollpoint Pro.
-
I mostly use a mouse (Logitech LX7); at home I also use an Apple trackpad.
-
3M vertical mouse and Kensington Expert Mouse (the mouse that's really a trackball).
I've seen pictures where people have modded the 'board with a glidepad -so it looks built in.
-
I bought an Apple touchpad to use with mine...but have yet to try it out.
I use my CST trackball right now.
-
When I use mine, I have a CST trackball that I use. But I rarely use the Kinesis, so my opinion may not count for much.

It's a process....
Apple Magic Trackpad, Evoluent Vertical Mouse, Kensington Expert Mouse Pro (with Mouseworks and 11 programmable buttons!), Rollermouse, Rollermouse Free.
See sig for Kinesis Contoured Split Project integrated solution...

which one do you prefer/recommend for RSI alleviation?
-
all of them ... AT THE SAME TIME lol
-
why dont you put the trackpad in the middle piece of the keyboard ?
-
I've read that the RollerMouse Free is the best for RSI. I'm looking into getting one, and it looks like a great mouse.

-The Rollermouse is by far a superior pointing device overall. I enjoy the flexibility of using gestures on the Apple Trackpad as well. I can actually use them both for a variety of different functions. Using them as a pair, I feel I have pointing devices covered.
-The Apple Trackpad is quite large and won't fit well in the middle of the Kinesis Contoured.
-I've found a mouse, regardless of how ergonomic, is still a very un-ergonomic and cumbersome tool (use a Rollermouse for a couple weeks and you will completely understand that statement).
-A quality trackball is the next step up from a mouse (a very big step). I love my Kensington. With all the programmable buttons and clickable scroll wheel, no other trackball compares for overall functionality. Maybe they will re-issue this model with an optical trackball.
Another option is the stylus/pad combo. I still have not used these. The one overriding issue I can't get over, is that you need to pick up then HOLD the stylus, and put it down to do data entry.

CH Trackball on the right, along with a 3M Vertical Mouse (large). Roller mouse below. ALPS trackpad in the center.Belkin Nostromo on the left, with a Gold-touch Numpad.
-
Hmmm...more pointing devices than me....AND a cooler sig...
-
When you have your split contour completed, yours will definitely be a cooler rig.
-
i think that trackpad would look awesome right in the middle of the keyboard. and might work well too in terms of travel.

Oh, you mean on the upper portion? Yes, I carry a Kinesis Advantage and Rollermouse with me weekly out of town. Absolutely not convenient. I bet you're right and the Advantage/Apple Trackpad could be a great match. I'll try a velcro add this weekend and try it next week. I'll report back. :)
-
I purchased an Apple trackpad to use with my advantage...but as of yet have not taken it out of its packaging. (enjoy my trackball too much I guess)
-
My ALPS glidepoint is held in place with double sided sticky foam. Works pretty well, and isn't as fragile as the stick of my Trackpoint mod. Yet if I make it permanent, I'll have to move the LEDs on the Kinesis.

How's the ESC key location working for you?
Can I get a couple pics of the different incarnations you've gone through? I would like to put them in a sub-heading "Modified Kinesis Contoured" gallery I want to add to my mod posting soon.
-
Unfortunately I don't have space for Rollermouse on my keyboard tray..
Where can I order the ALPS trackpad? I found them just on ebay... Are they for USB and PC? Can you recommend any alternative trackpad that would fit in the middle of Advantage?
What do you prefer/what is faster for switching between pointing device and keyboard - a trackpad in the middle or a trackball on the side?
Thanks,
Martina

Apple Magic Trackpad velcroed onto Kinesis Advantage. Works nicely, hands never leave the keyboard pads. http://yfrog.com/h46o0nnxj

Check that out! Does the 'click' work well? I imagine it can if there is plenty of velcro making the unit pretty solid.
You are Mac, and you get all the gestures, right?
