Hi all
I have been searching around ebay for quite some time now and these don't really seem to make an appearance.
To my surprise these don't appear to cost that much new?! My question is, am I missing something? It says on the spec page that it uses MX technology; does that mean it uses mx switches or the other half-breed type (my?)
I can't find any information on what switches they use?
Ideally I want something with browns? Is it possible to find this board with browns?
Thanks
Jim.

Windows Keys: 99% chance for MX Black
No Windows Keys: Most likely still black, still existed in blue and clear switches though
No Windows Keys & Compaq branding: MX Brown

Arrh thanks. I have a donor board with some browns in at the moment. Is there an easy way to swap the blacks in this board without de-soldering them all (they are PCB mounted aren't the?)
Are mx switches the same as ALPS where you can just pull the switch apart and insert the desired brown components? I guess what I'm asking is; do cherry switches all share the same base?

Yes, its rather easy with some practice. Fork of doom is your friend:

Alternatively, geekhack member CeeSA also made a video guide:
Edit: Seems all images on the Chinese guidie are 404 now, thats a damn shame. It was really well documented. Anyway, CeeSA's video should do the trick.

That's all my questions answered then. Thanks.

i've just seen that one, but what about the built quality
I have a realforce but really want to test the famous cherry mx touh, and i plan to buy one for use and test (that's the geekhack's forum effects, spending crazy amounts of money in keyboards ;-) )
The realforce is a very good piece of hardware, sturdy et solid.
What about cherry's ?
Thanks

Cherry makes a solid product for the price for regular-stock models (particularly in Europe). When you get to the more "exotic" models, you will pay (perhaps) more than you would for a keyboard of similar quality. Both of my Cherry keyboards, a G80-3000 w/browns and a G80-1863 w/browns, were $100+ new. That said, both keyboards are somewhat "exotic" when compared to the models that are typically sold on the market. It's easier to find some of these atypical keyboards in the Asian marketplace, but again, be prepared to spend a pretty penny on them. If you're looking at different Cherry models, I would suggest the G80-1800 series as I think they are a bit more solid than the 3000's. You can get 1800s from PCHome with browns, blues and blacks last time I checked, but they're expensive.

Thanks
just have to find a g80-1800 whatever the switches to test it

I have access to a bunch of g80-1800s, both the newer lasered keys / with win key, as well as the old doubleshot keys / without win keys. So far all haave black switches.
I can get a good deal for any geekhacker interested. Pics of two 1800s in my sales album.
Also, typing this one one of the black 1800s right now.
