Hello,
I'm currently using a Microsoft Ergo 4000 keyboard and some keys are starting to get inconsistent. I'm definitely getting a Topre, but still have the dilemma between 55g and the variable weight version
Generally, I probably do about 60% typing and 40% gaming. Last weekend, I went to Fry's and tried out the Steellseries 7G (the only mechanical keyboard available in a store where I live) and found it a lot more responsive than my Ergo keyboard. The keys feel lighter but still have some weight to them. I would assume that the Topre 55g is about the same as the Black cherries, and I probably don't mind the weight since my Microsoft ergo keyboard needs 75g for the key to completely bottom out.
My question is as follows:
Since I gaming roughly half the time, the Topre 103UB 55g appears to be the natural choice, but I keep thinking about the 103U variable weight version because I can get a white version (easier to see the keys) and it's cheaper at Elitekeyboards. Could you guys give me some feedback on your gaming experience with the Topre 55g and the variable weight version?
Here are the games I usually play:
Civilization V, Bad Company 2, SC2, Empire/Napoleon Total War, and Crysis.
Thanks!

I've played about half an hour of BC2 with my Topre and I didn't really mind the variable weight.
My suggestion:
If you touchtype get the weighted one, if not get the all 55g.

I can't really give you any feedback regarding gaming, but I have both variable and 55g topres and i find that i like both. the variable is really light, and has a nice soft landing. the 55g are nice in their own right, they require a little more effort, but have a more defined bump. hard to go wrong with either, but i could see how the 'a' switch on a variable board might be a problem for gaming. it feels _almost_ linear

I used to have a 55g board and I loved it for gaming (FPS). Now I have recently been trading back and forth my 87U variable and G80-3494 (cherry red) for gaming and I've noticed that with the variable weight Realforce, I sometimes hit A by accident (and move to the left) because A is 35g and it's a little easy to press by accident. Even so, I still prefer this keyboard for both gaming and typing (the 55g can be a bit heavy for typing for long periods). Also if the minority of your gaming is FPS, you would notice the 35g keys even less (since you'll be pressing them much less often).

You will be fine with the variable weighted version.

i've tried them both and i'd say since u do a fair amount of typing i'd say go with the variable board
the 55g board i see good for strictly gamings, but i personally did get tired of typing after a while. the variable has it's cons too imo- the 35g keys are too mushy -but when i'm gaming.. i don't even notice the difference in weighted keys what so ever.. and i'm an avid gamer.
