Title: Anyone know what type of switches these cherries use?
Post by: bytemeavaj on Wed, 02 February 2011, 18:06:16
Hi there:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823333018&cm_re=mechanical_keyboard-_-23-333-018-_-Product

and

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823333056&cm_re=mechanical_keyboard-_-23-333-056-_-Product

I'm interested in a tenkeyless, and these fit the bill.
Does anyone know what switches they use? Are these worth it?

Thanks

They are ML Switches, there is a review here (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:12952), I am not fond of them personally, keystrokes feel kind of stiff.

As a quick rule of thumb, the only Cherry boards with MX switches have a G80..... model number.

There are rare G83s and G86's with MXes, but follow Superfluous Parentheses's rules.

FYI, I have one of the oldest versions of the compact ML boards and it feels surprisingly smooth. The newer ones have a much more pronounced tactile point and seem to have more friction. I suspect that you might be able to break them in over time. What really kills this board is the layout, I wouldn't want to type with those reduced size modifier keys for a long time.
