So I recently purchased a Razer Lachesis 5600 to replace my old Razer Diamondback which has served me well for many, many years now, but has finally become inconsistent and unreliable.
Actually one of the reasons I went with Razer again was because I was so impressed with the performance of the Diamondback...
However I have been having some problems with my Lachesis axis-locking, and Razer told me to return the Lachesis as it seems to be defective.
Long story short, I'm thinking of asking if they can instead give me Razer online-store credit, or perhaps selling/trading the new Lachesis they send me and purchasing something different.
So here's what I'm thinking...
I purchased the Lachesis because design-wise it seemed quite similar to my Diamondback.

As you can see, the Diamondback (the one with the glossy shell) and the Lachesis are quite similar in design. While length-wise they seem to be the same, the lachesis is notably taller at its hump, and the buttons are higher up. The lachesis is also widened, and if you have a sharp eye, you'll notice that the slope from the hump to the buttons is not as steep as that on the Diamondback.
Part of me feels this shallower slope is what makes me uncomfortable with this mouse. As far as the higher hump goes... I sort of wanted a higher hump, which made me excited about this mouse as it seemed to offer that. However I sort of feel the hump is too high on this mouse. This combined with the shallow slope almost makes the mouse feel as if it was just designed for a larger hand.

I believe I have a claw-grip, correct? I sort of feel like I'm somewhere inbetween palm and claw.
Anyways, you might be able to see that the Lachesis, with its higher hump, fits more fully in my hand. I sort of like this about it. It makes my mouse feel a little more stable when I'm using it quickly. At the same time though, the steeper angle of the Diamondback lets me hold the mouse with a little more bend in my index which I feel gives me more comfortable mouse control, since I move the mouse mainly with my fingers and I feel the Diamondback gives me better leverage to make mouse movements with.
With this said, I'm at a loss... They don't make this same model of Diamondback anymore, from what I can tell, and I'm not sure if the design is all the same. A lot of people seem to love the Deathadder, and recommend it, but I'm just not sure if this would fit my hand well...
Any insight on this? Recommendations for me to try?
Thanks in advance. (and pardon my dust)

I have a similar grip and have used ms intellimouse for years ... then i recently switched to a wireless mamba .. it is VERY similar mouse, but built for 2010

I seem to have the exact same grip as you. A claw grip with the fingers not lifted that high
if you can still get one why not get the diamondback 3g? its an amazing mouse with a great sensor
or if you can live without more than 3 mouse buttoms you could get abyssus. But the best mouse i ever had is roccat kone+ its perfect for your grip. Little bit one the expensive side though, but its worth it because its perfect in every way

There's the spawn mouse which definitely was built for claw-grip. But might not be up to your standard as you seem to prefer the ambidextrous grip rather than a psuedo-optimized right handed mouse. And using the open-source version of the Avago S3888, ADNS-3090.
Long thread here towards the bottom it starts to get the reviews seems like a back and forth. http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=2013203 (http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=2013203). Guess you should wait for Bullveyr to pop up he's been following it a lot longer.
And then there's also the Xai as well which can fit your grip style maybe not as completely due to lacking such a prominent hump i.e. it's more subdued on the Xai.

I was looking at the Abyssus actually...
To be honest I've never used a side-button in my life...
I sort of like the on-the-fly DPI buttons... But I mean really, that's more because I like less sensitivity on my desktop than in-game.
I actually didn't realize they made the Diamondback still, apparently you have to search for it specifically on the site in order to find it...
It costs the same as the Abyssus, which only costs $10 less than the Deathadder...
I'm not dead-set on Razer or anything, but if I end up getting store credit I might as well use it.
Sorta sucks that nobody has displays so you can actually try out the mice before purchasing them... Well... They do if you're buying logitech.
The 3G infrared sensor in the Razer Diamondback 3G enables movement speeds at 2.25 times faster when compared to a standard 800dpi optical sensor. Before the enemy sees you, he's been fragged.
The enemy never sees you... This is the one thing, the one key phrase about selling gaming peripherals. They all claim that your enemies wont see you if you're using that peripheral.
Quit holding back, Razer... Just market an invisibility cape... I mean really... What gamer WOULDN'T want their very own cape? And quite honestly what gamer SHOULDN'T be wearing one already?
And best of all... It's an invisibility cape so your enemies will be fragged before they even see you.

I loved the 2G and 3G diamondbacks. Abyssus is a good replacement, I used that for a while. But its not as nice to hold imo. Then I tried the Kinzu, which had a good shape but really bad performance (really bad acceleration issues). Now I've ended up with the Xai, which is slightly bigger but really good. I'd try that.
Ps. I hated the Deathadder shape. So I think we are quite alike with our preferences.

Well, the thing that concerns me with the deathadder is that's it's meant for a palm-grip. So I really don't know how much of and issue it would be...
I mean it does look like it has quite an aggressive angle on it, so maybe it wont be that bad?
But again, for RTS type games I sorta think the smaller mice would be better.
Companies should really provide demos where you could buy a pack of empty shells of all the mice they make or something.
FWIW I tried a Logitech G9 in a store once... They didn't have any body attachment on it so I found it way too small without one... The mouse buttons felt great to press though. I really liked that on that mouse.
Speaking of which that's one problem I sometimes had with my Diamondback, especially when I first bought it. I would sometimes accidentally click the right button just by resting my fingers on it.

I use a fingertip grip and I received my abyssus yesterday. The angle is less shallow than either of the mice you have pictured. It felt a bit strange at first to use, but after an hour of gaming I'm completely used to it.
-
I also have an abyssus and use fingertip grip as well. I like to move the mouse only with my fingers and the abyssus is so nice and light just perfect for RTS.
However I have some problems with vertical tracking with that style of grip and the button travel distance could be shorter and should be less stiff to press.
I definitely want to try the razer orochi some day.

The Deathadder does force you to hold it in a certain position. Not really for fingertip gaming. It is really a lot different from the Diamondbacks.

Hey!
We talked about this in the Geekhack channel on SC2, and I stand by either getting a Salmosa or Abyssus. If Logitech made an update of the Mini Optical, I'd totally jump on that one but as it stands it looks like the aforementioned mice would be your best choice.
I have a claw-grip myself and find the DeathAdder to be suitable after trying to get accustomed to it in a week. It's a bit on the heavier side, but I got used to it.
Might have to try an Abyssus or Salmosa myself and just use the DeathAdder for browsing the web and what not.

Have you tried a g9X? It has changeable grips, weights and changeable color leds for each profile setting.
Also you could always just buy another diamond back.

+1 for the G9, use it without the grip!

If you want a normal mouse, get something simple like an Intellimouse, but if you want to try something new, buy a Logitech trackman or some other kind of trackball.
