Title: Cleaning Logitech Illuminated keyboard?

After I get my Filco (its in the mail as we speak) I'm going to put my Logitech Illuminated keyboard in storage or find some other use for it. However, it feels quite dirty and I want to take off the keys. How do I go about this for scissor switches? And does anybody know how to take it apart completely? I already removed the screws and such, but I still can't get it loose.


(on a related note, what can I use to easily remove the rubber coating at the bottom, its wearing off and I want to remove it completely since it feels ieeeeeeeeeeeew).

A workmate of mine swears by Cyber Clean (http://www.cyberclean.net/index.php?page=home&language=english) for cleaning low-profile keyboards. I have not tried it myself, though, and I am a little bit worried about the alcohol. (search the board for cases when cleaning with alcohol has went wrong).
First, though, I think that you should vacuum-clean it, using a brush nozzle that does not scratch the keys.

I think that maybe the keycaps could be snapped off, cleaned and then snapped on again if you are really careful. Removing a keycap on a scissor-switch keyboard means opening the switch.
Myself, I have ruined a few scissor keys on several keyboards and that is why I do not recommended opening them.

I pulled off a space bar on one of those other scissor switch Logitechs before, couldn't get it back on properly. So if anyone knows a good trick, lets hear it :).

I removed a CapsLock key on a laptop once. To put it back in, I just pushed it until it snapped on somehow.
The day, someone grabbed the laptop from storage and the key popped off.

I have accidentally removed keys from my logitech illuminated board a few times. It happened when my sleeve got caught on the top edge of the key and pulled towards myself and slightly upwards. The key snapped back on without any trouble.

Don't listen to anyone who calls that keyboard garbage. It's a great keyboard. It's just different than the mechanical keyboards people love here.

I saw that before too. Mind didn't have that problem. I couldn't figure out any combination that I could possibly want to use for gaming or typing that didn't work.

You can see in this picture my tools for key removal.  The trick is holding the stabilizer down so only the keytop pops off.  I haven't gotten around to taking pictures for detailed instructions.

Did you not like them because you have to hold the keys down perfectly with a lot of force to keep them actuated? That's one big reason why I hated my enermax board so much. It was never a problem with the logitech though. I had to try my hardest to hold down the key but not have it actuate.

They're too wide for the keys. I would need some kind of platform like you have there.

You're right. I can't hold shift-w-space. I don't know how I could have missed that in keyscan. I the only fps I've played since owning the board (bc2), I thought it was a purposeful limitation of the game to prevent bunny hopping. Ha.

That is pretty terrible for gaming then. It's still a damn good typing board though.

I can do shift+space+wasd according to the microsoft thingy (http://www.microsoft.com/appliedsciences/KeyboardGhostingDemo.mspx). But 1 more button and it starts ghosting an "e" in there. So shift+space+wasd and then pressing crtl also results in an "e" there.

wasd+ right or down arrow doesn't work, wasd + left or up arrow does work.

Well, all combo's I can do with 1 hand on the left of my keyboard I can perform with this keyboard. Other hand is on the mouse anyways.

My Logitech Illuminated is being returned solely because it fails W+SHIFT+SPACE.  Other than that I got it 50% off and it's the best thing I have at home for typing (model M is at the office) until I finalize a choice and find a source for something better.

Of course that increases the urgency of my mechanical purchase for home.... :(

Hi, I'm new here and I'm looking for a good scissor switch keyboard. What's the model of the one in the photo and what are your thoughts on it? (thanks, I know it's a bit off topic)
