Title: Kinesis Advantage - $150 (Chicago)
Post by: DanGWanG on Tue, 15 February 2011, 12:00:32
Saw this on Craigslist earlier.  Seems to be a pretty good price if it's a local pickup, but shipping shouldn't be too bad either.

I've emailed the seller just to briefly gauge his selling interests, and he's looking to get rid of it because he can't get used to the keyboard structure.  Sounds pretty firm on the price, but I'm sure there is a little wiggle room.

Good deal! I use one of these at work and love it (too expensive for my personal taste but $150 is darn close)

I purchased this board over the weekend. Came to $160 with shipping (to Minnesota). Thanks for posting this.

Oh, and hello geekhack. First post!

I've seen at least white Kinesis in a pile of keyboards that a guy was giving away for free under the free stuff section. He didn't contact me back.

I just can't get used to the Kinesis layout. Admittedly, I'm not trying all that hard, as I don't like cherry brown switches, but it's just so damn hard to write code with.

Why exactly? I'm not a programmer, please have patience with me :D

It just feels very awkward, since when coding, you make a lot more use of the non-alphanumeric symbols, and those are in not so easy to reach locations.

For free form typing, it's nice once you get used to it, but for coding, it's just an exercise in frustration.

OK, I see how that can be a problem.

I've been using one for programming since '98. It takes a little getting used to, but ultimately there's less twisting and stretching to reach the keys.

To each their own, I guess. A lot of folks in my department (CS) get one, and eventually get rid of it with the same complaint. I discovered this after I had switched back to a Model M, and my advisor asked me if that was the reason.
