Damnit. He also tried to help by turning it upside down, while the keys were still on, to try and drain it.

Have you tried to save it? There are lots of techniques to use, particularly if you have "nothing to lose".
Disassemble what's possible, immerse in distilled water, then 50:50 distilled water and alcohol, then warm air dry.
I know mechanical switches are involved, and any lubricants present could be washed out, but it's worth a try. It might make you feel better than just pounding his face in...

It's not mechanical is it? It'd be interesting to see if there are electronics in both sides of it, or if it's just in one side. It may have 0 damage once it dries out if the chip is in the left hand, which is a good chance since that side has the numpad and such. Although the right side does have the lights, so that might not be...

Lots of things can be saved, electronic or not. The most critical thing is rapid response (especially if this is salt water, which I really doubt it is). Things that are tough to save is sandwiched displays (liquid can get in but sometimes can't get out) and mechanical devices where grease can get washed out by further cleaning.
I would definitely disassemble and take whatever actions are necessary. As I mentioned, with "nothing to lose" total immersion can save a lot of things.

That's a stabbing:

And yes, I keed, I keed. If it had been an Advantage OTOH....

Hah. Awesome responses all. Turns out I'm saving it as we speak as the damage wasn't as bad as I initially thought. Some got between the plastic sheets of the grid though which is the most annoying part. Unfortunately it's not mechanical although the thought crossed my mind to attempt a transplant. Anyone got the body of a MX switch laying around?

How big are those square holes?
A Cherry MX switch fits in a square hole that is 14.0 mm wide, but the tolerances are small.
-
You would also need a custom PCB to do the transplant.

You can figure out the matrix and use wires so you wouldn't necessarily need a pcb, as long as the switches are being held, but it's unlikely they will fit so well.
The toughest part if the switches actually did securely fit in those holes will be finding or making caps for a split board like that.

Well, the base of the little towers might actually be just right on a rough measure. I'm not so sure the plastic would be strong enough without the metal plate supporting it.
I think we're SOL on the mechanical idea =\ Back to cleaning it. Anyone else have a similar thing happen to their KB?

I spilled soup into a membrane keyboard once. No biggie, just took it apart and cleaned it up. Worked as good as ever afterwards.

so did you shart on this guys keyboard or what ?

Odd looking sliders. Unfortunately they seem to slide on standard grooves.

The Topre's are Mo Bettah! I think this has a lot to do with the Topre key feel.

Not even grooves. Just a slight straight wall with 2 tabs to prevent the slider from going all the way in. If I had a decent camera I'd take better pics. Topre's lookin gooooood.
