Just a heads up. If you play online games in particular, upgrading to sp1 may break the game. Not sure how or why yet, but it stops warrock from loading, and I've been reading about BF2 and some others as well.
-
If you play online games and install sp1 64 bit is affected too Combat arms players are having trouble with hackshield giving them errors. War rock is just not starting, also uses hack shield. And Battlefield 2 and other battlefields are reporting similar no start problems. Steam users of some games also seem to be affected.

I can't even ****ing install SP1, keeps telling me that one or more system component is missing, mind to tell me what the **** is missing exactly? **** MS and **** their ****ing useless support site.
-
Does SP1 effect Black Ops at all? That would be my only concern.
-
One theory is that it stops directx9 from working. So anything that uses it is now junk. There are supposedly patches/fixes but the ones I've tried haven't worked.
-
As long as many games are still console-ports, DX9 is still used mostly. I have both OS's (XP also) so I may have to choose which games to put on which OS.
I'm staying away from SP1 for now. Early adopters get the shaft for awhile.

I've lost support for my games in windows over 8 years ago.
Use XP for those games then. Don't wrestle yourself to death trying to fix it.
I rarely do updates unless I actually need them. No point of changing something that isn't broken, only to make it broken.
-
All my DX9 games still work.
-
Everything seems to be okay. Nothing to see here, people. Move along.
I didn't even think that it could break something like that, and after reading this topic I felt like I needed to try 10 different games, so that everything works. And it does, thankfully.
-
I updated immediately after it came out, everything is still normal.
-
All is well in western Puerto Rico.
SP updates always screw with some people. It is sort of amazing that windows runs at all, what with all the patching and legacy code.
-
Update: Wacom tablet stopped working properly in Photoshop (it works fine on the desktop), and an old game broke.
-
Installed last night, in about 5 minutes flat, which was impressive. Restarted, job done.
No problems yet, my bootup and shutdown times are a few seconds faster too, which is nice, seeing as Sandforce SSDs are not exactly sluggish to begin with.
-
Warrock International was fixed last night with an update, so definitely a vendor problem, Warrock Japan/Korea is still down.
-
Don't know about games, but something happened during the installation of sp1 that totally botched my computer. It would stall a few seconds after boot, and you were not able to do anything. In the end I had to resort to a clean re-install of Windows.
I then managed to delete my steamapps folder by accident, despite the fact that it was not on my boot drive. Doh! Steam had got a bit confused when I was re-installing the client, and was basically not working so I decided to unistall/re-install the client. I didnt realise that would delete the steamapps folder as well - wont be making that mistake again!

Sounds like a good thing that I stopped using Windows before this **** started happening.
