Title: Anyone else collect/work on old antique pocket watches?
Post by: chimera15 on Sun, 06 March 2011, 02:44:55
I just had my interest reignited in old pocket watches after searching ebay and finding some really good deals on some key wind pocket watches from the late 1800's.  Got a couple for less than $50 in working condition.  I have to say I'm really amazed at the technology they had back then and that it's managed to stay in working condition for 150 years or more.   Pretty fascinating, and runs with no electricity. lol

Pretty amazing, a couple seconds of winding results in the clock keeping perfect time for several days.  Just so cool.

Not exactly "Pocket Watches" but vintage Grand Seikos (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=15433) wrist watches.

Just a few Days ago acquired another Grand Seiko, a Blue Dial Quartz 8J56-8000 from the same seller, should arrive Tomorrow from Paris. I think it's another bargain purchase probably due to the seller's poor picture quality & description.
A better photo link to a Black Dial (http://item.rakuten.co.jp/baradis78/10017233/)............GS Homepage (http://www.seiko-watch.co.jp/gs/index.html)........

These were only for the Japanese "Domestic" market, but now they have decided to introduce the GS for the rest of the World. In a few Years, the Vintage GS will be out of the reach of the usual bidders, especially the mechanical GSs.

Ah, the good old Vibroplex Bug. I still want an Amateur Radio license, but it's too much time out of my life. I don't need any more obsessions.
I'm not into pocket watches, but my dad and I love wristwatches. Too bad you rarely find stores that carry IWC, Vacheron Constantin, Patek, and Piaget.
