So I dont know about everyone else here but I am a movie junky and I need some suggestions for some good movies to see. Help me out!!
I love all genres especially foreign stuff(dont mind subtitles at all)
-
ya, I have been debating wathcing carlos. Right now my netflix isnt active so I can only watch the compacted movie version which is like 2 or 3 hours long on ondemand.
As for Red riding its one of those movies trilogies I heard praised alot when I was reading that garfield got the spidey reboot role and never looked into it, but now watching the trailer it looks pretty interesting almost like the uk version of zodiac.
-
o ya and if anyone wants to be completely disgusted with our banking system go checkout "Inside job".

IMHO, Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102293/) is an absolute must-see. If you like absolutely hilarious cheesy, funny horror, you'd love it. Chinese movie subbed in English. You'll laugh so hard you'll "noppoo".

for once I agree with this guy...
-
where can I find it at? Is it on netflix or should I try torrenting it
-
If you ever saw that:
Then, go for this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1278449/).
-
I'd never seen that short and the feature looks like fun, I'll have to keep an eye open for it!
The Lives of Others sticks in my mind as a taut, well paced thriller.
...and Mesrine is just a blast!
-
Mesrine looks right down my alley, definatley going to check it out. Thanks!!

Movies uhm, to watch in Cinemas or at home on Bluray/DVD? I have no idea, what's in movies this week, but here are a few Bluray suggestions:
Inception was quite nice i think, maybe Book of Eli. Hm do you like Animes? If yes, try King of Thorn! A friend of mine really likes "Sword of a Stranger".
Classic Animes: Princess Monoke, Akira (Streamline Dub > Pioneer Dub IMHO), Ghost in the Shell for example.
If it could be an older Movie, try Black Rain, Seven or Braveheart.
-
+1 for Princess Mononoke, that's a classic. Howl's Moving Castle was good too, but super weird.
-
My favorite Anime is by far Ghost in The Shell. Maybe because it's the first anime i've ever seen. But right after that it's Monoke and Akira. From the recent ones i really dig King of thorn and the Black Lagoon Series. But Black Lagoon ain't a Movie.
Quite nice, that there are some Anime fans here :thumb:
-
ripster is that miyazaki poster you posted from hiyao or his son? Also tell me where you got your catbus stuffed animal I WANT ONE BAD
and I love anime and all of miyazakis movies although I dont really consider them anime but more like the japanese disney. Akira, my neighbor totoro, mononoke, md geist, spriggan, howls, kikis delivery service are my fav animation movies o ya and monsters inc.
-
everyone needs to go checkout the new full length "super 8" trailer. gives me kind of an 80's spielberg kind of vibe.
-
so you've actually been to the ghibli museum? so jealous right now
-
Need new suggestions!
Also bump!
-
Post the list of what you've seen so far will help to exclude a few :-)
I saw Rango the other day... Enjoyed it.
Have you seen Metoroporisu (2001)?
-
Watching Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

That's a blast!
If you like it... Go for RocknRolla (2008)
You won't be disappointed

Infernal Affairs trilogy. 3 of the best movies I have ever seen!! If you liked departed, you'll LOVE these. Departed was taken from the first Infernal Affairs...but Infernal Affairs does a much better job with the story.
-
seen all of ritchies movies and love them all except the pile of crap where madonna is stuck on an island, made me wanna stab my eyes out with a dull spoon.
As for posting what I have seen, that would take a very very very long time, just throw out some suggestions.

Ya these are the movies with tony leung that departed was based off of right? I absolutely love Hong Kong action/ crime drama movies especially back when john woo wasnt yet infected by hollywood
-
Try Lilja 4-Ever (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0300140/). It's a good movie youve prob never seen.
-

No... imo, having watch infernal affairs 10 years ago then watching the departed, then rewatching infernal affairs, the departed is basically movie plagiarism. It likes scorsese just took the english subtitles of infernal affairs and said, leo- this is your part
jason borne here's your part
marky marky here's your english translation.
not only even scene for scene... but the only difference was using a cell phone vs. a radio transmitter and that's only because of a 4 year difference in movie making.
I'm sorry but seeing the departed vs. infernal affairs just brings up so much hatred i can't help but rant. Considering i've watched 25years of hong kong cinema and imo... infernal affairs was the last good movie to come out of hong kong (now it's just stupid movies and horrible cgi).
-
I just recently watched The Secret of Kells and really enjoyed it. Also watched 127 Hours recently and loved that. Check either of those movies out if you haven't seen them already.
-
Seen them both, loved 127 hours but fell asleep during kells not because it was bad or boring was just a long day at work.
-
I absolutely love Hong Kong action/ crime drama movies
YES. Hong Kong cinema is AMAZING. Start rating on Netflix a bunch of the HK flicks you've seen and you'll get some great recommendations!
-
-Die drei Räuber - cute childish story
-The Triplets of Belleville (2003) - masterpiece
-The Iron Giant (1999) - Great!
-Panique au village (2007) - Weird, creative and funny as hell. Gumby of the 2000's
-
Exam (2009)
The Oxford Murders (2008)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
-
That's a blast!

-
Snatch is one of my favorites.
Ripster : I know I know im killing myself about not seeing Mesrine yet
-
It is a love story, unbelievable it may seem, it's about The Monkey.
The man (Monkey's reincarnation) refuses to kiss her before leaving because of his pride. Monkey intervenes, then man realises that Love is much stronger than Pride.
-

I avoided that one to not spoil it.

Does anybody like Kim-Ki duk movies?
-
Just Finished Mesrine Movie One and Two - Recommended if you like French egotistical bastards.
Did you see it in French with subtitles or in English?

Always go for original version... In this case French.
I learned it the hard way with Das Boot (1981).
Saw it twice, first Original in German with English subs - Loved it.
Then second time in English. hikes.
When the actors on the set are getting their balls soaked in ice cold water, they don't screem like whoever is re-playing it in their comfy studios. Once translated the flick had no more saoul. From then on, no more translations for me unless I have no other choice.
-
Ya Ive seen the original cut of Das Boot such an amazing movie. feels so weird to root for nazis.
Since we are on the topic of subtitled movies below are some of my favorite subd movies.
City of God - Brazil
A Prophet - France
Amelie - France
Oldboy - Korean
Girl with Dragon Tatoo trilogy - Swedish
Let the right one in - Swedish
Killing Zoe - France
-

Wow good selection... I've seen them all except Oldboy and they are very good indeed.
-
Oldboy is amazing, along with city of god is just on another level. Complete mind**** off a movie.
-
Let the right one in - Swedish
This one is good.
-
American remake: Let me in (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1228987/)

American remake: Let me in (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1228987/)
I have yet to find one remake better than the original. Let me in is no exception.
Even when done by the same guy.
Luc Besson - Nikita (1990) -> Waow
Luc Besson - The Assassin (1993) - aka La femme Nikita - blah
If not mistaken, Luc Besson couldn't get the original in the States. He had to "JunkFoodenize" it with local actors and local money.
My Favorite Besson's movies: (by dates)
2008 Taken
2005 Angel-A
2002 The Transporter
2001 Yamakasi - Les samouraïs des temps modernes
1998 Taxi
1997 The Fifth Element
1994 Leon: The Professional
1990 Nikita
1988 Le grand bleu
1985 Subway
-
besson didnt do taken his protege did.
1994 Leon: The Professional - Best of the list by far imo
Angel-A also good.
There are a few remakes that surpass the original, couple examples below
The Thing (my fav horror movie of all time)
True Grit
Cape Fear
Scarface
Insomnia
Vanilla Sky
-
old boy, the director recently came out with a trilogy called the vengence trilogy old boy is second in the series, and an actor or 2 are in different roles, i found the third movie to be more compelling than the first (i can't give away the names cuz it kind of gives away the whole movie lol).
-
Saw "the other guys" last night. Decent comedy, ferrell makes it work.

I'm not big fan of Ferrel but cut myself laughing many times. It is indeed a decent comedy. Surprisingly good.
Did you like the base jumping scene? What a transition!
-
Speaking of retarded humor with "the other guys"
I recommend

I often get Ed Harris mixed up with Peter Weller, it comes with watching RoboCop 1+2 over a hundred times when i was a child.
holy crap a quick google turns up he supported and did a funny or die video when there was that whole RoboCop statue debate in Detroit.

Last I heard the statue was being made because someone donated like 25 grand? Whats been happening since then? Is it still being made?
