It took me few days to notice it and just updated my U9BL-S Review (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:16239) accordingly.
Maybe that's what others have described as "keys not aligned". I call it the "stair" effect. It makes me hit keys by mistake during game play on the numeric pad. Not too much of a problem during text typing. But in some games, I use the right pinky for the NUM0 and NUM1 and I kept hitting NUM1 for no reasons. Now I know why…
See the pictures of a U9BL-S with "stair" keys vs a Deck with leveled keys.

I'm not a fast typist but I suspect this might affect a fast typist who's not lifting his fingers as high as I do to move around from one key to another. He/she will probably hit the edge of other keys in his/her way to the next key to punch.
The above assumption will need to be confirmed by a pro :-)

I'm surprised you're just now seeing this/running into this. Several other keyboards have those keys laid out like that, the DAS and Filco boards to name a couple. It sucks that it's bothering you. I rock the 10 key accountant style and haven't ran into any issues.
If I may ask, what kind of games do you play this way?

Ok, now I see it on most of my boards. That's funny I never noticed that before. But I also understand what is going on with the U9BL-S. It got the biggest step between the [1][2] and the
I use - to crouch and [1] for accessories. I was wondering why I kept ending up with a gadget in my hands when I was trying to dodge.
I feel shy. A seasonned keybordist just figuring that one out is like a pilot saying... OMG that's what mph stands for...
