Title: Better Than A Topre
Post by: Keylamity on Tue, 22 March 2011, 13:56:34
I know I've been carrying on lately about how great it is to have a Topre keyboard...Topre this, Realforce that.  I see now that I have been shallow and narrow-minded, for today I have discovered there is something better, more satisfying, and twice as nice than a Topre Realforce sitting between a human being and his monitor.....

Ok now tell me something.

I was under the impression that the sole purpose of a 10keyless was to save space. Aren't we missing the point by adding a fullsize keybaord on the estate?

Candid question from someone who owns a 87U and a 103U :-)

Personally, although I love Topre, I actually prefer MX clear switches with brown/red/blue springs. That's my favorite switch. They feel like MX browns with the tactile bump from a clear switch.

Personally, I prefer a switch harem over any single switch.

I'm a monogamist polyswitch *****.

Hmmm, I'm starting to doubt my decision on getting a black topre instead of a white one. I always thought the white ones looked a bit naff, but there is something charming about them - plus you can actually read the legends on the keycaps.

It's possible to over-think things.  This is one of those things.

Now go line up your Realforce's for a pic and upload it here like a good boy, because to be a brash braggard and join the absurd calamity of the "Two Topre Club", you gotta show your show cards, bub.

That's exactly why I ended up with two.

The first was black and the light at the office was such that it was really hard to read the "legends".

My ultimate Topre would be all 55g with white doubleshot fonts on black keys.

Regarding Topre's current state after the tsunami/earthquake catastrophe, I found this announcement on their Japanese web site a couple of days ago. It was posted on February 15.

Funny you should mention this...I've been wondering.  Thanks for the post.

Some things just get classy in white.  A BMW 335i is fabulous in black.  But in white it's, well....resplendent.  Think of the board as the exterior, and the key colours as the interior.  That's why a white Realforce with saddle brown keys would be sublime, man.  Sublime.

Then make sure to vote (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=15808) on white.
The black/gold is very close.

I like the texture of the default topre keycaps. If these "mythical" keys shared this same texture, I would be all for buying a set!

I should of take time to take the the 87U out of the box. I teared the cardboard a little. I even tried to include your post in the picture but couldn't focus on the LCD properly. Sorry for the XArmor on top... The XArmor is the active keyboard of the day.

That's some sweet action.  You're #2 in the club....and tuck that 87U back in it's shoebox an in investment, or inheritance for your grandkids.

Can you imagine what these things would be worth if Topre called it quits?  it's one of those things you just buy nib and keep that way, like some people did with IBM Spacesavers.

Knowing my luck, my future kid would probably be like "I can't see the keys" and throw it in the trash.

I think my grandkids would kill me (if not dead already) for giving them a retarded fancy keyboard instead of my fortune LoL...

As I said in a previous sarcastic post... I'll give my Topres for free to the one I hate the most.

I don't get all the fuss about NIB though. Does NIB means never ever used?
Or I can still sell it NIB as long as I still have the box and if I only used it for few hours or couples of weeks?

I mean, the switches are good for gazillions cycles. Who cares if you're down to few hundred less.

NIB means "new in box". Using the keyboard at all ruins that, and takes the value down if it becomes a collectible.

One of these days I'll get a 10keyless realforce. Need to wait for a new cool one to come out.
