Looks like its hard to get this keyboard to US without waiting really long time and paying for extra shipping cost from other country.
I was wondering if there is a keyboard similar to this kind of keyboard in general. Also should support 3+key press at the same time. You might say that it is similar to any rubber keyboards out there but I think there is something different thing about this keyboard.
I'm currently playing sc2 and I wanted to see what kind of keyboard is similar to DT-35 that is being sold in most US retail stores.
-
Thank you for a fast reply =]. I will look into that keyboard and look at it!
-
What's the deal with the DT-35? I've seen it mentioned a lot related to SC2, why is this so popular in the SC2 scene? Because it's "in" or is it actually a good reason for it?
I don't mean to threadjack, but hardly seems worth creating a new thread for so I'll borrow this thread a bit.
Edit: Seems ripster ninja'd in an answer before me, sorry.

Well, first of all it is around 10bucks in korea and many pro gamers used this keyboard since way back. They even released gaming version of the keyboard for it. People say that it has some kind of different feeling. The only reason I'm wanting to buy it is because I'm selling my Leopold F300R Red Switches which came about 10days ago. It doesn't fit me well for playing games but great for typing. I actually don't know exactly how DT-35 feels compared to other membranes but I also used Saitek Eclipse II before.
This guy said in some different forum:
"I have a mechanical keyboard (Cherry black) and a DT35.
In my opinion, the mechanical keyboard is great for typing, but not well suited for playing starcraft. My fingers get fatigued much faster on the mech when maintaining high apm. The DT35 is just so smooth. If you want a similar keyboard, I would recommend a standard dell keyboard. That would be my second choice for sc.
Btw...
most cheap keyboards from the electronics store do not feel anything like a dt35, for example the cheap logitechs are insanely mushy feeling. GL"
-
Hmm, might have to try one then, simply because of the low cost and the fact that you can never have too many keyboards.
-
The thing that's special about the DT-35 is that it's cheap and widely available in Korea. Progamers wear out keyboards from banging on them at 300 APM for 14 hours a day, so they want to be able to get an identical new one frequently so they don't have to adjust to a different keyboard. Gaming houses buy them by the gross at Sam's Club.
A lot of other people get it because they see progamers using them and think there's something magical about it. But that's all there is to it.
-
Agree with Fwiffo. It was cheap and available everywhere in Korea.
-
Oh really? Well then what kind of membrane is popular for its long durability in US? I would want one where it has the key caps like DT-35 gaming version or ergonomic one. where some membrane keyboards have (http://www.lightconecorp.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/lkbd1.jpg) - Picture of Logitech Classic Keyboard 200
Here is a zoom-in of DT-35:

For me, they look different, the shape, kep cap looking texture, keyboard texture. DT-35 Looks way cleaner or I would say fresh.
As I read about the keyboard more, people state that it has a higher key button and the keyboard itself is a bit high.
-
Not to be a jerk or anything but, the amount you're going to pay to get what you want with the black and white caps in the US is going to be dumb compared to what they keyboard is really worth. The only reason it's popular is because of progamers. No matter how you try to justify it, t's just a cheap keyboard and that's about it.
-
The only reason it's popular is because of prolamers.
Fixed that for you.
-
Yes, so I'm looking for a keyboard similar to it. Not the actual DT-35 xd.

NMB RT's (as in Right Touch) in the 5000 and 6000 series. Late Compaq's, ATT and DTK rebranded them as well. If you really want to know. I can dig my cave to find out which Compaq and DTK's models.
The RT 5000's and 6000's are membrane boards rated at > 20 million cycles.
-
You want a membrane keyboard that you like the feel of, and is available at retail stores. To find such a keyboard, go to retail stores and try out the keyboards to see which one you like the feel of. :-)
-
The DT-35, as many people have already said before me, only became popular because of its price and availability in Korea. Now that progaming has become really huge in Korea, progamers (especially starcraft players) have more money and seem to be almost universally switching over to Cherry MX boards. Flash, BoxeR, Fruitdealer, and others use either browns or blues.
-
At the end it doesn't matter.
-
Why do you want to waste your money?
DT-35 thread from a while back (http://geekhack.org/showpost.php?p=173264&postcount=18).

I know of a membrane keyboard popular in the US due to its reliability

Someday I'll get tired of making this joke, till then.

Has anyone actually seen flash use mech? I'm highly skeptical of the celeritas endorsement...

Here is a picture of flash holding his sponsered keyboard....

Anyway so those Qsenn DT-35 costs 10 bucks. That is why oGsMC gave his keyboard away to their fans after the semi finals of GSL :P

Doubtful majority of the "pro-gamers" don't know jack ****. Most are as clueless as your average computer user; or at least have a slightly better computer expertise but not at the level of a power-user.
Mostly advertising the companies product. I think it might be one of those situations were there is obviously a superior product. But even the company doesn't bother to explain why, so they just come in take a few photos and in the end go back to what they used. And judging from what might be the Photoshopped keyboards, I guess it's just about advertisement.
Guess it's one of those situations were unless you give it a try. Your really not going to notice a difference, despite the fact there is a difference.

Here's the timeline of one progammer keyboard event.
1. Team TSL is sponsored by SkyDigital nKeyboard, makers of a nkey-rollover membrane keyboard.
2. Kim Won-Ki AKA TSL_FruitDealer wins the GSL using a Filco instead of his sponsor's keyboard.
3. I spot the Filco, and post a thread on TeamLiquid.
4. Everybody conga cajones
5. Worldwide shortage of Filcos
6. SkyDigital nKeyboard freaks out, calls their OEM
7. OEM cranks out a new "nKeyboard Mechanic" model reusing blueprints from the discontinued Filco bluetooth keyboard, complete with vestigial battery compartments
8. nKeyboard produces advertising material featuring Fruitdealer (http://skyok.co.kr/product.php?code=741), crediting their keyboard with his victory
I'm completely e-Famous and none of you can take that away from me.

It might be possible that while the keyboard itself is as cheap as the other membrane domes out there. The material used in it and or the formation of the domes are made in such a way that they offer different feel.
As far as the keyboard goes it's constructed pretty much the same way as any other domes keyboard.
This is gonna sound a bit strange but something here on geekhack that hasn't been talked about much. Is the difference between someone liking a mechanical keyboard and someone liking a rubber dome or other switch based keyboard.
And what I mean by that is that maybe your the type of person who doesn't like the fact that the cherry mx switches feel so artificial and you prefer the natural elasticity of the domes.
Sounds like a strange situation. You obviously seem to like the keyboard because of it's construction and capacity. Hell you even exemplify it's greatness in typing, which is a common complaint when it comes to the heavier linear mx black switches.
It turns into one of those situations were suggesting anything else is gonna be tough unless you first hand go to some shop and try out a variety of switches(other mx, topre, etc.etc.).

Exactly... which is why I'm pretty sure flash just agreed to get a picture with him and a celeritas for a crapton of money and then go straight back to one of the dt35s in the team's massive pile of keyboards.
Just like any other endorsement- usually isn't what the person actually uses.
Also I think the dt35s feel a little different than most rubber domes. Not sure why, but I do see why it's chosen over other cheap boards.

[edit]oh whoops, it's out of stock there too :(

If money isn't a huge concern for you, checking out a Topre might be worth it. It's, for all intents and purposes, a very high quality rubber dome. It might split the difference for what you're looking for.

True, but Zowie also sponsors StarTale, the Starcraft 2 team, and all StarTale players do use the Celeritas, from what I've seen on televised games, or their house tour, etc, hell, if they give you a free decent Cherry 'board, why not use it?
