Also, I've heard rumors of them making Leopolds with Cherry MX Reds, I just sent an e-mail to their service department to find out if that was true. I sure hope it is!

I told them it doesn't matter though, if I missed it and they shipped browns, I'm fine with that...just kept debating between the two. Been using browns for like 3 weeks and I kind of miss the blues a bit.

Edit: Err yeah, I meant to say I got a shipping notice too. :)

Not too nervous though as I already have two really nice keyboards both from EK and I trust him to do the right thing. I am patient for my toy :) though I was WAY crazy about getting my Filco initially, neeeeeded it.

I can understand that impatience for the first mechanical, it is SUCH an upgrade if you're on a trashy rubber dome slopfest.

I would wager it has nothing to do with order dates, as long as you got in the initial batch.

Hopefully they'll move to Otaku Browns next, but regardless I should have a shiny new toy sometime next week (hopefully)

I got the right type (lettered browns)

Gonna try typing on it right now and see how it feels from the filco.

Ok, I'm typing on it right now and first I'll comment on the aesthetics of the keyboard before I talk about the feel.

Right now comparing it my Filco keyboard I must say that the Filco looks much more pleasing to my eyes because of the sharp corners.

The rounded look of the Leopold gives a sense of "chubbiness"? if that can be described.

The keys themselves, if I remember correctly are the same ABS material as the Filco, but seem to have a rough and shiny type finish which may dull down after repeated use.

Instead of being pad printed the keys are laser infilled, which give a greater contrast for easier recognition compared to the Filco.

Also when raising the legs to lift the keyboard the height of the keyboard is much higher than the Filco. I'm not sure by how much, but it seems to be around 2-4 mm, which doesn't seem much but definitely makes a difference in feel.

Could it be because of the different stabilizers used?

I'd be interested to see if anybody can come up with the amount of force needed between the Filco and Leopold spacebars, since I don't have any weights or scales around.

EDIT - So about my order. I basically placed mine on March 7th, 12:05:09. So basically 5 minutes past midnight when the Leopolds were up for pre-order.

So if EK is sending out shipments based on first-come-first-serve basis I would have been one of the first ones to get a shipment. Now whether hes splitting them up between browns/blues/otaku version would be anybodys guess.

Thanks for sharing that. I placed my order on 3/10 and it's around 100 higher than the order you listed, and that's not even counting all of the other orders that came before 5180.

Elitekeyboards just sold a ton of these keyboards so it's understandable that it's taking a while to ship all of them.

Can't wait to replace my Filco blue with one of the Otaku browns!

I'm wondering what I should do. I think I'd prefer the lettered version (which I ordered) rather than the Otaku (which I actually received), but I don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back (& paying for shipping). Should I email EK and see what they say?

Why would you have to pay return shipping on something that isn't your fault? If that is the case there is always the chargeback option. However, I believe Majestouch wouldn't have an issue making things right. Just shoot an email.

I think the keyboard looks fantastic, and if I were you I would strongly consider just keeping the Otaku version; it matches very well with the keyboard considering there are no markings or brand names on it.

As far as the metallic ping, yeah that's normal. You get used to it, but it's definitely not the best keyboard if you need something particularly quiet.

Seems pretty normal. That is basically the same thing I have at the moment. I ordered on Mar 24, but don't have shipping confirmation. Just give it some time. We'll get ours when EK gets around to it. There are just a lot of orders to process.

Thanks. Yeah it's my first mech keyboard, I wasn't sure it was worth the 100 bucks but after reading the forum a bit it kinda convinced me to give it a try. Can't wait to see the difference compared to my usual 10-20$ rubber dome keyboard.

They get smooth pretty fast, so no luck there. I also prefer rough, but I'll live with these for now.

Thanks! Yup it doesn't take much adjusting... There's a bit of texture on the keys, and they're curved quite noticeably, I guess that's to keep the pressure centered when pressed.. Very happy with the purchase, feels a bit different than the Northgate keyboard I loved back in the day, but that click clack feedback is magic.. Cheers.

That F is EXACTLY how a number of my Rosewill RK-9000 keys look right now after the fading that's happened. And you don't have to be anywhere as close to see it like in that picture.

Originally the font was white. Don't mean to derail this thread but this was a happy accident that you posted that picture and I just happened to see it.

Well, MP's are a rather hyped feature, you got to consider that 1024x768 corresponds to about 0.78MP and 1600x1200 is barely 2MP's. But old or cheap cameras work horribly under low light situations, so taking pictures under daylight, as ripster said, you'll get reasonable good pictures.

Special thanks to geekhack (and its posters) for the threads and guides and such that helped me make my decision.

I considered blues but I'm sure I made the right choice. Got my otaku browns on friday. Very nice how soft I can press the keys; great for programming (which is most of my typing). Maybe should have got printed keycaps since there's some things that are normally right-handed items but I would usually hit with my left hand so I don't have to take my right hand off the mouse.

Not sure on gaming (Starcraft 2, World of Warcraft) yet just because the wrist rest I got (amazon; previous keyboard had a built-in one) slides around too easily, which is not only distracting but messes up my hand alignment, causing me to sometimes hit the wrong keys.

I like it flat; don't use the foldout feet. I thought I'd be annoyed by the leds but when they're off they fit with the keyboard very well (they don't stand out) and I don't use caps lock that often (and I had to look up wtf scroll lock does). The windows key bubbles are smooth and shiny, and are much smaller than I expected; a windows icon on there would be tiny. Not sure if I like them.

After only a couple days use I can see dust on the sides of all the keys; will need a lot of dusting to keep it looking pristine. I think the blankness around the arrow keys looks awkward. The rounded corners that looked kind of silly in pictures look fine in person. Sound-wise it's not too bad. Most of the noise when I type seems to come from spacebar and backspace.

Still want a full-size one. Maybe it's just me but I keep my mouse sensitivity very high so I only have to move it about an inch to get across the screen, so I probably don't need the amount of mousing space that the hardcore tenkeyless advocates do.

This always happens to me when I get a fun new toy. Still, my first impression of it has been very, very good. The shape and size work perfectly for my setup, and I really love the detachable/redirectable cable. It just makes situating the keyboard so convenient - it's full-sized in the ways I want it to be, and compact in the others. I like the plain and simple look, and there's a feeling of subtle quality about the whole board. Whereas my Unicomp Spacesaver feels slightly creaky in the plastic casing and the keypresses have a bit of 'hollowness' about them, the Leopold feels solid, firm and sleek. I haven't decided yet whether I prefer the browns to the buckling springs of my Unicomp - different but equal is my verdict so far. I enjoy the 'bounciness' of the Unicomp, whereas I find the browns to feel more... firm? While also being less resistant? I'm not very good with the technical lingo. The browns have delivered on their promise of being real mechanicals while also being significantly quieter than buckling springs, and for that I'm happy.

My only niggle with the Leopold is the spacebar - maybe I'm just having to get used to it, but it doesn't quite travel in the way I like. Something about the keypress feels restricted, and its travel seems shallower than the rest of the keys. Maybe it will just take a little longer to break in, and it's not a big deal so far. It does stand out to me, though, as feeling different from the rest of the keys, and it's mainly this inconsistency that bugs me.

Other than that, I'm very pleased with my Leopold! It meets my needs almost perfectly, and I feel that every element of its design has been carefully considered. I'm not very experienced with mechanical boards, but I'm thinking this board will end up being a crowd-pleaser around here.

It's obvious that EK is a small operation (1 man from all public indications) suffering under the load of a tremendous order stream. I'd give him a day or two to get all these preorders out before cursing his lack of reply on emails.

My guess, if he's working on a Sunday night, he's absolutely swamped.

Coming from blues I can see why people would call them boring (but not bad). I'm actually really curious to see how my Filco feels tonight after typing on this Leopold all day.

This is my first mechanical keyboard and I really like the size, style and typing feel so far, especially coming from a saitek eclipse II that is about five years old. It's going to take a little getting used to i think but i'll really like it in the end. The MX brown is definitely louder than i thought it would be but maybe thats because i'm bottoming it out on some keys.

When I first got my board I was having problems with it, but after a few days I never really noticed it again. I think you just adjust to it, but it does move more easily than I initially expected.

I mentioned it because I'm used to my Rosewill being super heavy and it has never moved while in the middle of any game unless I pick it up and move it. I will play with my Leo on the feet to see if it stays put as well though.

It was alot smaller than I thought it would be, which is a very good thing for me. It's also alot lighter. Seems durable too. We'll see what happens after a few weeks. I'll post pictures later.

Useless o_O? Is your table made out of lubricated glass? I use the board propped up and it takes quite a lot of force to move it. It's not LOCKED into place like the Realforce but it takes much more force than I'd ever use to type on it.

I swear I read a post by someone "in the know" who claimed that the pull out feet did NOT need rubber because the base design is SO much more stable compared to the Filco. I use a "roll out" keyboard tray attached to my desk, it is made of processed wood with some sort of finish applied to it. Nothing crazy or out of whack with my keyboarding surface.

"Just a sidenote, you may ask why the rubber on the fold-out feet of the FILCOs was scrapped in the Leopold design. On the FILCO it was necessary to compensate for the fact that the front rubber feet barely provided any traction when the back feet were folded out (due to the angle the front pads are mounted at). The rubber fold out feet were a band-aid that had the occasional side effect akin to getting your foot stuck in between some rocks, wherein you could end up with a broken ankle; so with the Leopold design the rubber on the foldout feet was removed and more traction was added with a second set of front feet that have full contact with your desk while the back feet are folded out. Who knew Topre had it right from the beginning! R&D sometimes saves money down the line;)"

I've never had to quote myself before! Fwiw, the printed board also has domed keys IIRC.

D'oh, I shot off an email to EK too saying he should reshoot the photos (I assumed it was a change he pushed for, but photographed one of the first boards; if my memory serves me correctly, the otaku filcos initially shippeed with blank windows domes. Mine has all blank keys, no domes).

Can't help you on the Canadian front, but my keyboard shipped out yesterday and it hasn't been updated. Other people who got theirs have said the same thing, so I wouldn't count on an update.

Mine is still in the process of getting here (it got shipped on friday last week), I should be getting it soon though because it got through custom today. USPS only sells "Delivery Confirmation", not tracking. Any tracking you get is gravy.

Anyhow, signup for a PackageTrackr account (https://www.packagetrackr.com/user/signup), put in the tracking number (it'll save to your account), and enable email notifications. You'll get an email once it starts moving, when it's out for delivery, and when it gets delivered (or if there's an exception).

One catch: After the label hits your country, tracking may not work through USPS. For Canada it did the last time I shipped something; for Brazil, it did not (only on Brazil Post's tracker did it work).

That's what I do, anyways. I find it easier than neurotically checking the status.

EDIT: Also, once you have an account, you can forward any emails with tracking numbers to track@packagetrackr.com and it'll add them to your account. If you want a package nickname, change the subjeuct line to whatever you want it to be.

With feet extended it moves easily with slight pressure to the top/bottom of the keyboard. It does not move easily side to side. Hopefully we'll see a future iteration with rubber on the feet - I think it would be an improvement. Overall, not a big deal for me since I'm not gaming on it.

Otherwise, keys feel great. If you pay enough attention you can feel the stabilizers in the bigger keys, but it is barely noticeable in my opinion. Most noticeable is the sound, feeling not so much. No problem with squeaking or anything.

I much prefer the smaller form factor to the Filco. It makes a big difference on my desk not having the extra material on the top. My desk is pretty crowded so every little bit helps.

Visually, fonts are nice and crisp. "Back space" is good for a laugh. The most annoying thing are the bright blue LEDs - but I can live with them.

I'm really looking forward to hacking on this board.

Now I have a good mechanical board for home and for work. Currently driving on my das at work because of the silence factor + tenkey. Not having a 10key is fine at home, but I have to have one at work. I just do too much data entry and data management to not have one.

In any case, I really love the small form factor for home. It just makes my day every time I see it. Oh and I love the little roof that comes with the Leopolds. I realize they aren't the greatest of quality, but it does provide a little comfort when drinking a beverage near the board.

I'm using it with the feet extended and it doesn't slip at all and I've been gaming pretty hard on it so far, so I don't see how everyone else was slipping. One thing I HAVE noticed is that both the SHIFT keys are like really messed up, as if it wasn't oiled enough or something, which correlates to what many others have been describing. I was hoping I wouldn't have the same problem, but unfortunately I do. But since coming from a rubber dome keyboard, it doesn't really bother me at all much and I can deal with it. Might buy some lithium oil later on to fix it, but for now I'd say I'm pretty content. Btw my SHIFT keys make some sort of like squeeky sound. I'd say the only problem is with the Leopold SHIFT keys, but besides that, I'd say it's perfect.

Yeah I ended up bringing my Browns into work because the shift keys are so bad it hurts my wrist after a day of coding at work. Lithium oil is in the mail so I'll update if that fixes it, should have it by Monday. I noticed it getting worse as days passed, to the point of Tab and Backspace also starting to exhibit the same properties. Had to put her back in the box for now.

am I safe to use any usb extension as long as I use the adapter when plugging it into my pc? the wire is -just- a little too short for me.

the bigger keys have a much softer sound to them than the main keys. and in fact the whole thing is a lot quieter than the blackwidow I had just before.feels very nice though. and looks waaay nicer.

Mine blues don't seem to have the problem, fortunately. One thing that I have noticed though, is that all the keys with stabilizers feel kind of... dampened? If I bottom out on the enter or backspace, I have noticed that they do not make nearly the same sound as non-stabilized keys. I am not annoyed at this at all, and it even makes very good sense to me. I generally smack the modifier keys a little harder than the normal ones, so it's nice that they don't make a ton more sound than the regular keys do. Just a little different is all.

While the keycaps are nice, that is as far as the pros go.

Now to the cons:

Crappy, crappy stabilizers. They sound very cheap and tacky compared to the other keys. The spacebar has this "loose" metallic movement sound every time you press the spacebar and that equates to some annoying typing. Keys like the backspace and enter all sound weird and cheap. Doesn't have the nice feel like the other keys have. You quickly ignore the good sounds in place of the bad sounds because the noisy, loose spacebar overwhelms every other sound.

The risers on the back doesn't have rubber, so that is also annoying.

Overall, you can tell this was a poorly thought out, and poorly designed keyboard. My Filco feels much better, and more solid overall.

I know it has been already stated by other users, but just wanted to share my opinion.

The feet on the other hand I'm a little upset over when the feet are extended, but it's pretty planted laying flat. I would say the enter and shift keys are a little mushy but not to the point where they are "straining" my typing.

The fact that some owners are already having to lube up their keys is a little disturbing though.

I wish I could have a Filco with textured\more durable keycaps!

The stabilizers are built to last. It's easy as hell to bend and irreperably damage a cheap stabilizer. This was one of the Filco's biggest faults. If the better stabilizer is a little noisy or w/e, add a dab of white lithium. problem solved.

I can hear the little metal pings on the larger keys but, unless I'm mistaken, this isn't the same "squeakiness" that others have been describing, but rather is just the sound I get from bottoming out the keys. I do not experience this problem on either of the shift keys or the backspace key. The spacebar has a hard to describe noise if I press it directly in the middle, I'd say some kind of plasticky/clicky noise, but that goes away as I press closer to the ends (like I usually do).

As for the general feel of the keyboard, coming from rubber domes this feels great, a lot lighter than the keyboards that I'm used to, and of course the sound is great as well. The detachable USB cord seems great, the connections seem really solid/not cheap at all, and require enough force to pull them out that I don't have a fear of accidentally disconnecting them. I haven't had a problem with the foldout feet, I'm on a fake wood plastic table and although I can push the keyboard if I want to it hasn't slid in regular use (gaming/typing). The LEDs on the lock keys are really nice looking, if a bit bright for my taste, but I really like the look that it gives the keyboard.

All in all I love this keyboard, the packaging and everything was great (I took pictures of that too, will post after dinner), the keyboard feels really stable. I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive after people on this forum started complaining about the keys but I'm glad I dodged that bullet/don't have enough mech keyboard experience for it to really bother me lol.
