Title: Tenkeyless with numpad?
Post by: neo on Thu, 31 March 2011, 21:36:09
I can't believe no manufacturer have thought about it so far. Tenkeyless keyboards are great, if only someone would include numpad on such keyboards, than they would be simply perfect!

Er, you mean as a secondary function? Hold down a "function" key and some of the alpha keys become a numpad? IBM did that with their mini board, but it's rare. Does HHKB have one of those too?

No, I mean a real numpad, not a virtual one. You know, the number keys plus arithmetic signs arranged like on calculator. They could be placed to the right of directional keys, for example.

You must be in  Europe because it's not April 1 here yet.

Nope, not in Europe. But it is April 1 where I am. :heh:

There's nothing that silly about the premise.

A tenkeyless and a seperate numpad in the same box, ideally at a lower price and better stylistic fit than buying an aftermarket numpad.

Put the numpad on the left, or put it away when you don't need it.

or even better, include the numpad but don't include the arrow and above keys, since they're all replicated on the numpad anyway...

Serious question time: why is it called tenkeyless when it's missing more than ten keys?

The sidewinder X6 has the perfect solution, but unluckily has one of the worst tactile feeling ever seen

Yes really, even a basic digit only numpad has at least eleven keys.

because the function of a keypad is manipulating the ten digits? i dunno.

Just because the numpad is usually called the tenkeys. So a board without it is: tenkeyless. Strange, huh?

No. When you put the numpad on the left side, it is still righthanded-but-moved-to-the-left-side. A proper leftsided numpad should be mirrored, such that 1 is under the index finger etc, in the following fasion: ENTER 3 2 1.

so why not mirror also the keyboard itself ?
