Hmm.. I don't think that's a Filco but again, I could be wrong.  It doesn't have that Filco logo in front of the keyboard.

The Filco full-sized doesn't have a logo in the front.

Have you ever actually tried playing fps on consoles? I don't mean play for 5 min and then run away. The dual analog sticks as well as the triggers are quite nice for fps. I stillprefer pc for most games, but there's the odd one I'd much rather play with a controller.

fps is okay on xbox 360. sucks on ps3

PC is where it is at though. COMPLETELY different level of skill and competition

Black Ops is a joke. why is that on the circuit

I'm not sure that a comparison of levels of skill and competition between console and PC FPS scenes is really that valid. It's like comparing badminton and tennis, the tools used and skills needed are different but arguably no harder to master, and I'm sure that the players are no less competetive.

As a former hardcore Q3 and CS player I can only frown at the new school frat boys that play FPSs on consoles and think its legitimate. That's all I can really say on the issue. People who think otherwise are just living in a fantasy world. All you can really do noodles is ignore them. The argument isn't worth having as you are arguing against someone who is some baselessly wrong that logic fails them.

Ahem, anyway.

These are those heinous headphones that they wear:
http://www2.razerzone.com/sc2/banshee.php

Gross Razer audio gear (I love their mice, but they should stick to what they know) with a stupid "APM lighting system" and built in EQ. All the pros wear them likely due to sponsorship/standardization of tournament equipment. At the GSL they actually wear canal-buds in addition to the Banshee to ensure that ZERO audience sound will reach their ears.

I have no interest in getting into a juvenile pissing contest about whether one gaming system is better than another. I was arguing that your claim that the levels of skill and competition are greater in PC gaming than in console gaming was spurious. I see that you have decided to take the "lah lah lah, I'm not listening" approach. +1

The point is that two apparently similar sports use different equipment and this equipment influences how the game is played. The skillsets may appear to be identical but they are not. There is no fair way of comparing the two that would enable you to say that one requires more skill (or is more competetive) than the other.

Siigh...people don't seem to understand this. Some people prefer using the controller, others prefer the keyboard. Personally, I prefer the keyboard for most games except fighting/racing games.

For example, I own Gran Turismo 5 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on PS3. On the PC, I have ~50 games. My PS3 is a Netflix box that I play MVC3 with friends on. My PC I game on. It comes down to personal preference. Most 'casual' gamers find consoles much easier to use, and more fun. More hardcore gamers use PCs. I think THAT is the real difference. If you want more casual gaming, play console. For more hardcore, hit the PC.

Another PC gamer acting like the 'elite' of gaming. It comes down to preference. That's all I'm saying. And Twitchy is saying there is no accurate way to do an apples to apples comparison between those two types of gaming, which is also correct.

Stop acting like you're special and let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. 'Stop liking what I don't like!!!' is all I understand from your argument.

My main problem with the console FPS's is the fact that they barely even make any pc specific fps's they are all console ports because that is where all of the money is nowadays, just look at crysis 2, crysis 1 was the pinnacle of pushing a system when it came out and now crysis 2 is just a junky run of the mill console port.

Atleast we have some good things to look forward to this year D3 (Please god come out this year), Portal 2 (Is this a port?), Darkspore, Torchlight 2, Dungeon siege 3, Battlefield 3 (Not sure if this is a port)

What I am saying is that it is easier and funner (In my opinion) to play with a keyboard and mouse, like I said earlier why play golf with a crickett bat when you can play with a golf club you know the way its meant to be played.

They are not apprently similar sports they are the exact same sport played with differant controls.  To each his own but me personally I hate what they've done to this genre of games.

I agree. I don't play any FPS anymore. I long for the days of COD2 and Medal of Honor. People now playing Black Ops are saying it's the greatest game ever and I just shake my head, a tear falling down my cheek.

I remember good ol medal of honor allied assault, return to castle wolfenstein and UTK2K4. Where did it all go wrong? Battlefield 2 lasted so long because instead of releasing a new game every year they made patches that added significant content. I know that there were many expansions that costed money for that extra content but they were like 15 dollars total for a bunch of new maps/vehicles/weapons.

I played CAL for COD2, Best game of all time for me imo.

I definately don't think I am the elite gamer or even PC gaming is elite, but it is better than consoles for FPS hence the study I posted where autistic pc gamers beat the console elite.

I didn't see you post a study, did I miss that? You referred to one but never linked to it or explained where it could be found. I found lots of talk about how HPs CEO of gaming Rahul Sood claimed that Microsoft had killed off cross platform gaming because PC gamers of average skill had consistently beaten console gamers. I couldn't find any decent source saying that this was because PC gamers had greater skill and not because of the differences in kit being used. Care to post me a link?

Playing a FPS Console Port on a PC is like......

your only option.

Haha, yup. That's why I just stick to RTSs these days and boot up Quake Live, CS 1.6, or UT2k4 if I'm really craving an FPS. They stopped making good FPS games pretty much right when Halo came out. It was the death knell of quality FPS games, oh well.

The reason why PC FPS players are so angry is precisely this one. Sometimes we even have to use arrow keys to navigate the menus because they were too lazy to add UI mouse support.

Hell, even our RPGs get raped. Try playing Fallout 3/New Vegas on a PC and try to tell me its not a horrific port. The mouse feels like its in molasses the entire time.

Don't even get me started on Dragon Age 2.

I never said console players were less skilled, what I did say was that they are using inferior equipment and dumbing down the community as a whole as all PC FPS games nowadays are ports because the money is in consoles which I can understand if you are a game developer and want to stay in business.

My post was a response to the one directly above by noodles256.

There's been a gradual drift towards making games more accessible and forgiving for a while now. Games adapt their difficulty to how well you're doing, hardest difficulty levels aren't quite so difficult. The challenge is less and less about working out how to beat a game, and more about not giving up. Doesn't matter how bad you are if you keep trying the game may well just let you win. It seems like developers are trying to prevent people from having a bad experience with a game i.e. the developer of "Generic Shooter" doesn't want anyone thinking "I'm not buying Generic Shooter 2 because that level I couldn't finish in Generic Shooter 1 made me feel like crap.".

I suppose it probably started with console games but it was only a matter of time before PC games were infected too. :(

I want a game to make me feel like its little ***** who can't do anything right and I'm always in fear of it curb stomping me. Games should not be played for fun. They are for overcoming a challenge or demonstrating superiority.

If people can hack away and golf and convince themselves that they're having fun I don't see why we can't have the same thing in video games. :)

Gone are the days when every game ended in failure and all you had to show for your trouble was a score. Perhaps it's an effect of the rise of online gaming. Single player is there to give you a good experience but you can still feel like a little ***** when you meet a beast online. :)

Old school arcade-style games are one of the few genres that are legitimate on a console. :)

Don't get me wrong, I used to love consoles. I still brag about the fact that I beat Super C twice in a row without a single death in high school. I just think that they should stick to what they're good at: arcade/action games, fighting games, racing games, platformers.

People always say "Hey look at Starcraft on the N64 it was so terrible RTSs should not be on consoles!" and I think the exact same thing about FPSs on consoles. It's just just doesn't fit, it was made for a different control scheme and people are opting to use an inferior one.

Ya, fratty douches on XBL are where all the money is. I'm exacting revenge by making Facebook games so all the tasteless game developers who have no integrity will flock to Facebook from the consoles and stop dumbing down my FPSs with garbage. Also it brings people back to the PC. Double win.

I will kill your consoles by making games for your mom. Suck it, frat boy.
Hahaha this is by far one of the best posts I've read on any forum ever! I came out of lurking just to say this. Now back to my lurking.

If you like Diablo clone type of games you should try Darkspore, I´ve been playing it for about a week now and it´s a pure enjoyable pain to play. I´ve not played a game like this in a long long time (probably not since the first game in the Diablo series), some of the boss fights are very hard and some of the random elite mobs that spawn are just silly. I´m on the equivalent of Hell difficulty in diablo now, and I´ve been wiping on the same map for 5 hours.

On the 2nd episode of the SC2 podcast Inside the Game, the question of keyboards comes up and one of the panel members, Painuser, mentioned he just got in a Filco with Cherry MX Browns to replace his MX Black Steelseries. They went on to talk about the topic for a small bit and surprisingly sounded like they knew a little about it, talking about actuation force, the heavy feel of MX blacks, etc.

woah woah woah, it seems like I missed that totally...
It's nice to know this, that more profesional progamers are getting into it, too bad that they mostly only know steel series, and razer, and also, if razer or steelseries decides to sponsor them, they are forced to use their keyboards for events, so, lets see if filco/ducky/das ever start to sponsor sc2 teams.

On a side note, the first time I found about mech keyboards, was when I was going through TL, reading about the korean rubber dome keyboard they use, and someone mentiones mechs, and I recalled TLO having on his facebook page, that he 'likes' DAS KEYBOARD. It was a big surprise to see they were mechs.

Too bad that I cannot watch streams of live events, due to the stupidly slow internet that is provided in my country. :(

It was Inside the Game, not State of the Game. Inside the Game is a new show hosted by DJ Wheat with InControl, Painuser and Idra. It's more strategy focused as opposed to community/general like SotG. Unfortunately it's only available in video streaming format for now, though he says it'll be up on itunes eventually when apple approves it.

P.S. I remember that Banshee/Dark Templar argument. "It's a flying DT that shoots missiles!"
