Title: dvorak manual typewriter
Post by: jolly_gnu on Wed, 06 April 2011, 20:11:59
I'm ramping up my long stewing search to get a manual typewriter (that actually works) again and having been a lurker her for while I was wondering if anyone might know anyone or have a WORKING (I want to use it, not look at it), two-handed dvorak typewriter that they want to sell?

Make or model isn't really all that important.

After all the money I have spent because of geekhack, I'm hoping that someone can help me spend a little more :)

Can't you just remap the typebars with AutoHotKey?

Actually, I had spent, about, two weeks overhauling an Olivetti Valentine to dvorak.  The problem is: the process is just too labor intense.  To cap it, as soon as I finished re-soldering all the type slugs and managing to get the alignment reasonable again, I broke two teeth out of the spreader while fixing a jamming issue (which makes the whole thing useless).  And after doing the work, I realized that I was never going to get as good an impression out of the type face as the factory--the slug always ended up being just a tad shallower in comparison.

So, I've just decided it can't be much more work to try and track one down.  I might be wrong.

Impressive. Didn't realise those were soldered.
