Title: I need a haircut
Post by: BucklingSpring on Fri, 08 April 2011, 10:58:50
My job was cut in mid January. It's funny what Globalization means for American companies. In short, spread as much as you can on all continents but make sure the control stays in the States. It was a great experience for me. For the past 5 years, I was sent all over the world, securing the ground for this policy and indirectly facilitating job lost everywhere.

The strategy was simple:
-   Firing Local expensive labor (US, Canada, Europe) and outsource them in cheap foreign countries.
-   Firing expensive foreign management and engineers, including me (everywhere except US) to concentrate the control in the States.

The future will tell, if it was the right thing to do. I think we underestimate the value of both local talent and foreign minds. No wonder some companies are reverting the process and starting to "Insource" again. Not to mention the cost of outsourcing. Foreigners and "third world" countries are getting better at it and slowly but surely increasing their price making it less profitable.

Anyway… I signed a great offer yesterday for a big fat local company known to be amongst the best employer in the country. I'm quite happy and looking forward to start.

It was fun to hang around GH between phone calls and job interviews. I enjoyed the keyboards discussions, the derailings and the humor.

Keep up the good work, you have a great forum. Turning such a boring theme as keyboard into entertainment is no small task. You are doing an outstanding job!

I'll still come back here and then to see how you guys are doing and what's new and exiting in the switch industry ;-)

Bla bla bla... I only start in two weeks but wanted to write a few words to see if MX Brown were ergonomic. I feel no pain. :-)

Congrats for your new job!

Thanks. I don't even have to drive to it. Few stations, subway to subway. No more travelling.

When I saw the movie "Up in the air" I told myself holly f-beep-k, that's my life ... It's time to move on. I was ready to do something else anyway. Living in a suitcase, expensive hotels and restaurants is glamour for a while but it also sucks the life out of you.
