Does the KBC Poker have the same layout as HHKB?
-
welcome first of all :)
i can see you have had a HHKB previously, and moved to BS and Alps. Im curiousl to know why?
things i notice
It has 3 more keys
it has a CAPS key
arrows on left, and in inverted T rather than a cross
narrow bezel (some people like this)
my personal 2 cents (thats about 4 cents in Australia with the current exchange rate :))
its NOT a HHKB killer any more than a hotted up 4 cylinder is a ferrari killer. nice board though.

It's a HHKB killer if you like the layout and Cherry MX switches better than Topres.
Your comparison doesn't really apply to this scenario.

The Poker layout is different to the HHKB. Inferior IMHO.

So, a Model M is a HHKB killer if you don't like Topre switches or the HHKB layout?

I'm also one of them. Ergo Cherry clears FTW!

i begin to love more cherry mx than topre, but i have to think about it twice, as i paid a lot :biggrin1:
The HHKB is VERY nice : tough, fantastic layout on Unix, USB hub, detachable cable, a touch feeling nicer than the realforce (imho), but i could have had three poker (red black brown) for the same price ....
so the hhkb HAVE TO be better.

I absolutely love the HHKB layout. But Cherry blues are my favorite switch (also love the browns on my Kinesis Advantage).
I switch between enough keyboards that I can adapt pretty quickly and easily.

I'll be putting some "Type R" stickers on mine, maybe get some rims.

Please see the Geekhack Switch Poll for more statistical proof of this. (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=11952)
How many of the people who vote for Cherry Browns have used Topre keyboards?
Never got a job as a statistician. Buildings might explode or something.

A lot of people who have both the Topre and Cherry MX switches prefer the Cherry MX switches.
I'm one of them (I am typing this on a Red Cherry Filco).

I would have to agree with another geekhacker's reply. Most people have have used cherry mx have not used a topre before. Personally, it's a no brainer topre - and yes i've tried all of them, black brown blue red white. although red is my fav out of all of the mx cherries. anyways just my 10 HKD cents

I use a Topre 86U at home and a Cherry blue Filco at work. I love both keyboards, but prefer the Filco to the Topre.
I used to have a Model M at home and at work, and switched to a Topre when we got a baby so I wouldn't wake him up. Then I realized the Model M at work was making my fingers tired (too much contrast between a Model M and a Topre), so I changed it to a blue Filco which feels "just right". I have no problem going back and forth between the two.
I tried a Cherry brown board once and it felt worse than a typical rubber dome to me. Never tried linear switches, but I suspect I wouldn't like them as I require tactile feedback. Quality scissor switches (e.g. Thinkpad keyboards) are pretty good, and I could see myself use them daily if I had to have a laptop. And Chicklet keyboards (e.g. Apple) seem to multiply my typo rate by 10, so they're out.
As for layout, I'm satisfied with a basic ANSI tenkeyless, but I have xmodmap-fu and always remap Escape left of 1 and Ctrl left of A (yes, I have a beard and I'm typing this in vim).

Yes, for some. Why not? Different strokes for different folks.

Thank You!!!! :-)
I really like arrow keys and the Topre on the HHKB were not my favorite...
I think I might like a varialble force topre realforce....
Still have not found my Favorite Cherry switch but I am thinking blues or clears... I have ruled out cherry blacks....

Contrary to popular belief, Different Strokes was NOT the highlight of Gary Coleman's career.
-
Someone mentioned Different Strokes?
whatchoo talkin bout willis.
Man, I used to watch that show all the time.
-
I'm going to watch it today :D

Kalrykh, YGPM =)
BTW, Apparently Coleman has a nude scene in that movie, which was not cut despite his demand for it to be cut. He sued the creators over that.
