Since I've seen you post that when anyone ask how to paint there bezel they never seem to come back and post pictures, or if they do, it takes two years. Well not today...

Crappy picture cell phone picture. But hey, at least I'z got proof that I did it! LOL
-
Nice color! Need more pics tho :D
You should also try to paint the FILCO logo with a charcoal/dark gray color like your keys. I dunno... the painted over is ... I dunno, something's missing haha
-
I thought the same thing, but after awhile I kinda of like the stealth look to it... LOL
-
should have masked the filco
-
Too late now. Still like it though.
-
Haha, yeah nice work. The logo is just a comforting presence for some I'd say. But if you like it stealthy, heck! it's your work and you like it, who are we to judge :D
May I ask with what did you paint it?
-
Krylon fusion blue with fusion clear coat.
-
Doh! Well I guess you'll have to wait then LOL
-
should have masked the filco
No need for masking, it can be removed very easily...

Can't get the right blue hue with the camera phone, but this is as close as I can get.

Looks pretty good, makes me want to buy some spray paint :D
-
Cool, rattle can is not my thing though
-
Dang, I've seen those keycaps a few times now.. Did I miss out on a group buy for those? (I've been away from GH for a loooong time until just recently). They're amazing! Are they cylindrical or spherical? I'd love to get those in spherical tops... *drooooool*
-
They were the keys from the first doubleshot group buy, but the current buy has them in the exact same style.
-
What? NOOOOoooooooooooo! what was the style called? I didn't see anything that stuck out at me as being the one (also, I was busy looking at the clears and funny keys). It's probably sold out by now but would be nice to know still.
-
I believe it was "Dolch-style" or something, since they were meant to match the look of Dolch doubleshots.
-
so thats what the double shots round 3 group buy looks like?
-
Yep. Supposedly (Will they EVER ship??)
-
@Rally Man, what kind of paint did you use to? Very nice blue!

Krylon fusion blue with fusion clear coat.
Interestingly I have to type a bunch of stuff because the system thinks my message has no content since it's just quotes.
-
That looks AWESOME. Makes me not want to sell my Filco and buy some paint instead! Was this just a spray paint job? Take off the casing and spray paint it? I've never really done anything like that, sounds like a fun summer project. Also, where in the world can I get some keycaps like that?
-
ew...ewEW..
-
yea was there sanding or anything else involved you said just the krylon and clear coat, no primer?
-
Looks great! Nice job!
@pitashen no u
-
Case painting is fun, but should be done with caution. I hate fusion. I gave it several chances on other projects; just never looked good. I used Rustoleum Industrial spray on my model m and I'm still happy with the results ;)
-
No sanding, from what I've read, it seem to adhear better to the surface if it has texture to it. But I made sure to clean it really good to get out any and all oils of the surface. We'll see how well it lasts. Oh, but I did sand after every coat.
-
I hope I'll still be here to report :)
-
I've had better luck with plastic if the surface is scuffed with some kind if abrasive pad.
-
So far so good, I'll post pictures every 3 months till I get to a year, then every six months, that's if I remember LOL, now if you remind me ripster, I would appreciate it.
-
Not bad. Those keys do look great!
-
Vinyl paint. Has added acetone to soak down a few microns.
I'll check this thread again in two years.
I always used the acrylic spray paints meant to paint the car's bumpers (usually available in shade of black and gray) like this
http://www.macota.it/macota/scheda_prodotto.jsp;jsessionid=CCBF216DBAF3A60EE0243CBF19D7012A?cat=100&subcat=23&id=7
I have same tings that were painted 10/15 years ago and they are still like new.
I usually used it when black parts were hard to find and the it world was all beige.
There is also a primer made with the same components which can be uses to prepare the plastics objects for the final (colour) paint, better if it is acrylic also.
-
this got me thinking about doing it to my new (not yet on my hands) filco gen 2 red full layout...
sorry to mention it, but there was any guide or something to follow and do the painting?
-
(http://tapatalk.com/mu/a6cd08b7-0ab1-b8e3.jpg)I'll have to check the date I painted this case, but it has to be close to two years. Rustoleum Industrial FTW. The paint job has held up better than the RIT, F and J are wearing through to the plain plastic.
-
Ew, auto-resize.
I'll fix when I get home.
-
BUmp... Where is Rally... i want to see how this thing lasted!

I can't remember the last time I touched my keyboard bezel. The paint jobs probably lasts a long time.
I am currently planning to paint as well. Stuff is in the mail. Damn usps .... :'(
