Title: Mouse with a thumbscroll?

I am using Logitech MX revolution now.

This mouse has a thumbscroll. I have mapped ctrl+tab; ctrl+shift+tab; ctrl+w on that wheel, so I can switch between tabs in all programs like firefox, photoshop etc. I LOVE this feature, and when I am using a different mouse I want to kill myself because of frustration. The problem is, that this mouse is wireless, and I hate when the batteries are empty, because I cannot work.

So I am looking for some new mouse, most likely wired, which has some kind of thumbscroll as well. But I cannot find any - only R.A.T. 7 but it is a bit different and you cannot have that third button (ctrl+w).

Can anybody help? I am not gaming, I am photoshoping. Thanks.

Remember that the logitech lacks the middle click button, so the rat would be just fine, two commands on the thumb wheel, a third on the middle click

At the time I bought the VX revolution (switch on bottom), and now I'm using the great M705 Marathon, switch on top.

Th M705 is just perfect, the wheel behavior can be changed with a button on the top, w/o having to interrupt the work and w/o loosing the middle click, is not too big like the MX 1000, not too small like the VX nano, has the unifying receiver, and the battery swap happen every glacial era.

Last but not least, now costs just 39 euro or American dollars wich is really a good price given the product's quality

Yes, middle clicking is iffy, so what I did was map the left lean of the scrollwheel to do middle click as well. It's very easy and light as a feather to do left-lean click, much better than pressing the scrollwheel down.

The middle click function, for some reason, get worse if the logitech drivers are used (it scrolls a bit before clicking) but is perfect if the default windows drivers are used.

So, is way better to use the default windows drivers and use an alternate sw to map the additional buttons.

I have found this http://steelseries.com/products/games/world-of-warcraft/world-of-warcraft-mmo-gaming-mouse. The thumb-buttons looks cool, but the overall design is horrible. Really don't need any LEDs on my mice. Also the steel surface will be probably uncomfortable.

I managed to pick one up cheap, and I'm really beginning to enjoy it. Its wireless, but you can use the included USB cable. Unlike mice like the Sidewinder X8, the USB cable is both data and power, so its a proper wired mouse if you need it to be.

Might be worth a look?

They're shaped in such a way that although they're nestled together, it's not too hard to hit the one you want. The triangular profile of the buttons help, and I think alot of the issues people were having came from how you press them. You don't press them straight down like a thumb button on say. the DeathAdder, I tend to sort of sweep them up with my thumb if that makes sense. Its easy enough to do given how they sit.

As for the top buttons, the top two under your left finger are almost shaped like a toggle, and I use them for DPI switching. They look like a pain, but the way they're shaped makes them easy enough to use. The only button I don't like is the one behind the free scroll button in the middle. It's just a bit awkwardly placed to my hands.

Post by: Brodie337 on Tue, 10 May 2011, 09:17:52: Should mention the downsides to this thing. You only get a day or two out of the battery, and the charging cable is a stiff, heavy thing. Thankfully its MicroUSB, so I should be able to find a lighter replacement.

Only other thing is that some people dont like the coarse, hard finish on the sides. I personally do, but it's almost sandpapery. Very grippy though.

When I bought it it was relatively expensive, don't remember if was 59 or 65 euro, now is likely the best mouse you can buy for 39$ or less.

Nano tracks better on some materials (some very dark cloth for example), but is really too small and lacks the middleclik.

Te older brother Revolution VX is slightly smaller but lacks the nano receiver, so is not an option here.

you can look also at the razer orochi if you want a bacteria sized mouse being a bt mouse the receiver is not a problem.
