Title: just got my Filco Tenkeyless Blank version!
Post by: brkim1324 on Wed, 20 April 2011, 16:21:24
It's blue switches. So far I am loving it more than Das blue :) The bottoming out is much low, and the key sound seem to echo more. Since the bottoming out is much lower, most of the time u type, u have to bottom out.  The key feels lighter too, so it's easy to cloud type. '
The sound is also louder than Das. Maybe it bottoms out faster cause it's been used about a year...
But I am loving it more than Das! and that's a good thing :)!

but 1 con thing...
the key cap texture seem to be not fairly cleanable with normal paper towels..
When I clean it with water tissue, q tips, or even wet paper towels, there seem to
be white things left on the side of the key caps. They are not sticky, but it's just
how the keycap textures are... So I had to use dust blower to make them fall off after cleaning them... Is it only me? How do u guys clean ur keyboard? :D

and 1 more minor thing...
The board seem to smell a little when I take out the keycaps..
Maybe it's from the previous user... but it seem to have distinct.. smell.. lol
Doesn't bother me much though :)

Now... I just need to get Brown and Red Filco Majestouch 2...

that would be my bet, probably tar residue from the previous owner. At least hopefully it is tar residue or ash. ;)

I love this keyboard.. but now I'm using for hours.. my hands r getting fatigue than Das... It turns out Das keycap r deeper and pressed more softer. Maybe it's because thats a full sized keyboard, and more new.. majestouch I am using now has much shorter distnace when bottoming out, so my fingers hit the floor most of the time.. as I'm typing right now. I just compared the feel with Das again, and defintely, Das has much softer feel when typing due to it doesn't hit the bottom as fast nor strong than Majestouch.. damn... I love both keyboards, but I know I can't keep both of them.. it's pointless.. :P.. what should I do!! ahhhhh

Maybe you should try one of the silencing methods described here:

http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?17373-Silence!!! (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?17373-Silence!!!)

That might dampen the sound of bottoming out if you like the filco more than the das.

I love the sound, but it's the feel. When I type, the keyboard seems to be lower meaning your finger will hit the floor of the board most of the time. I am not a hard typist. Your hands will get more tired... My hands are getting tireder than Das right now ... :( but I'm gonna still refund Das anyway...

Try a stiffer switch like the Cherry clears, or blacks.

doesn't black have more of pressure than blue or brown? Like u gotta press harder?
It would be great if it's lighter without hitting bottoms too much..
how is red and brown? :D

Stiffer springs help you prevent from bottoming out.

Hi, Brian.

(I sold him the keyboard, for anyone who's curious)

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! I miss the feel of it already. I've been using this old Model M of mine, but I miss the sound of the Cherry Blues. Also, the Model M tires me out a lot quicker than the Filco used to. I'm thinking I may buy another Cherry MX keyboard in the summer when I have some extra cash.

I'm not sure about the smell or texture. I only removed any keycaps once, and that was just reseating the space bar because it was double registering, so I never noticed any smell. I'm not a smoker, so that's not it. It just sat in my room since I bought it, so maybe it's just my essence soaked into the PCB. Hope it's not too unbearable!
