Well, at least there is still a lot of life left for the computer keyboards :D
-
I'm suprised they were still in production. I guess India finally gave up.
-
Those are nice looking key caps, assuming you're into the steampunk themed boards.
-
And here I thought jewelry makers and those steam punk modders were hunting through flea markets to acquire those key caps. I guess there will be more work for them without typewriters.
-
They will be crawling back when WW3 hits and all computers get fried from emp blasts

I can guarantee you that this wasn't the last typewriter manufacturer. The guy probably just said they were the last Indian typewriter maker, which is probably not true either. It's not like the daily mail is a reliable source of information, after all.
2 minutes of googling turn up what appears to be an active typewriter maker in China: http://www.cnofficeproducts.com/typewriter.htm
I'm sure there are dozens if not hundreds of small firms still going at it.

Brother still has the typewriters page on its website, i presume that if sold them it also produce them somewhere...

This chinese company claims to be a manufacturer, but also resells:

I can foresee the existence of hand made or small batch typewriters being made now and into the future. People still buy abaci for their novelty, so people will still want a typewriter in the corner of their office 50 years from now.

The Brother EM-630 even has a single density floppy drive! For unlimited storage capacity, and easy transfer of ASCII files to your computer.
-
Yes, a friend told me about this news story, and a short search showed that while the Indian company indeed made the world's last manual typewriters, Swintec made electronic typewriters for use in prisons - and then another story mentioned Brother. So you can still get an impact printer with an attached keyboard...
-
Ok, this made more sense...

If someone @googleplex read this will surely think to transfer all the youtube movies on floppy :D
-
No!! Now i cannot have all the typing machines!!!

Well, if it's the last manual typewriter factory, that's still the end of an era, so here's some music to remember it by:
-
Yeah, end of an era. Somewhere on an obscure internet forum devoted to mechanical [strike]keyboards[/strike] typewriters there is a hurricane brewing in a teacup.
