Title: majestouch 2 red switch wearing?
Post by: brkim1324 on Thu, 28 April 2011, 22:20:18
I am looking to buy Majestouch 2 red switch on Amazon.
But I see many reviewers complaining about the quick wear of the letters.
Isn't it all Majestouch 2 pad printed? including blue, brown and black?
Don't understand why red only having quick wear complaints..

Anybody have the same problem? :(

I don't want my keyboard to have letters wear off!!

It all depends on the user.  Some people have the lettering wear off quickly, and others like me don't.

I got a Filco last July and used it a lot playing WoW for 8 months.  Some of the keys are shiny but none of the lettering is worn at all.

The one on the right with the lavender WASD:

beautiful keyboard. I actually just tried out HHKB and loved that lightness. I am currently using Filco blue but hoping that the typing feeling is lighter.
Found out that HHKB has 45g, and Red also does too without that click between which blue has. So got very interested in it, and just ordered it on Amazon for 1 day shipping.
I think that could be my perfect keyboard for me after Das blue, Filco Blue, HHKB then this.
Hope this one works out for me best.. :)

You should be happy with it.  I replaced the one in the picture, MX Black, with an MX Red board.  It's taking me a long while to get used to the lighter keys after using a Black for 8 months.

Yeap, hope it works out. Hope I am happy with it even without that blue audio feedback I've been hearing for some time.. I am not expecting THAT much for this keyboard, since I know my ears will be bored at first.. hehe
How's that palmrest u r using? Is it good enough? :) I'd like to get a nice palmrest with my keyboard also.

I've used it for over 8 years now.  It's perfect for me.  Tall, firm and holds its form well.  I have the memory foam version at work and I think the gel one is better.  They are just hard to find.

I've been using my Brown at home nearly every night for WoW/SC2 for the past 5 months, besides a little shiny I'm seeing no wear at all. I'm sure it will eventually happen but people complaining on here greatly over exaggerate. "Oh no my keys are slightly shiny this keyboard sucks" blah blah. Worst case spend 20 bucks on the next group buy and get some double shots, you'll still have the foundation of one of the best keyboards out there.

If that's the case, then good enough for me XD It was the that specific comment on Amazon. There were actually 2, saying this one "red" somehow just wears off fast. The Majestouch 2 after few weeks.. I was like.. wut... but if it's okay for others maybe he just got the unlucky ones :P I will just replace them with PBT caps available at Leopolds when I get to Korea anyway when they wear off XD. Thanks!

I have found Filco users whinier than most.  Especially Wellington1869.

I recall that Welly used a das with blues. Didn't he used to complain about filcos and about you spamming them?

Like "just get a Filco /thread".

But you never do that! Oh wait...

specific to filcos most people complain about them getting shiny, or scratching the clear coat off because of fingernails or calluses or having alien's chemical composition sweat, not the letters wearing off.

QFT.

Greasy hands tend to accelerate the shininess process, so wash hands before typing. Hello OCD!

One thing I noticed with my Filcos is that the keys I use the most WASD, QE, 12345, etc... don't get shiny like the other ones.  Maybe it's the way we hit the keys that cause it to wear faster.  Like the bottom row on my boards start to shine more that the other because I slide my fingers down on top of the caps as I type.  Where 1,2,3,4, etc don't wear as fast because when I'm playing WoW and doing my rotations I'm pressing straight down and not sliding my fingers.

I "shiny" or "worn off" this or that is the breaking in process.  It means to the rest of the world that this board gets "used".  To me, it's like when your favorite shoes or gloves finally break in.  Do they necessarily look like they did the day you bought them?  No.  They don't.  But, they sure are nice two wear aren't they?
My keyboards are still new, so I'm taking a wild guess here but I think that the shiny or worn off element doesn't interfere with the boards performance but only adds "character", which I kind of like.
