Did you do that? If so, what KB do you have? experience? Suggestion?
-
You only have four posts here, but you own a RealForce, an 1865, AND you have a KBtalking Pure kit??? Me thinks you hail from Southeast Asia...
Sorry to go off topic. I haven't tried it yet, but I am planning to, and I think my cherry browns are still a little too loud to use in quiet places (coffee ships). I waiting for more feedback on the foam pads from EK. Although, I don't bottom out a lot when I type, so most of the sound is from the upstroke. Still thinking about that part of it.

Ideal is subjective.
I'd say good overall in price/performance/size/weight is the truly underrated G84-4100.
The Poker would've been good (because of the MX choice), if it wasn't for it's weird Fn layer layout - but if one could customize it somehow, it's a HHKB killer.
HHKB is blatantly expensive and IMHO Topre keys suck for light typing, due to the tactility coming from rubber domes.
EDIT: For short sessions, why carry keyboard at all. Just use the laptop one.

Correct, A little bit north of SE Asia. I have to blame you guys here lured me to buy those toys.
-
It depends on the notebook.
If it's a thinkpad the best choice is to use it's own keyboard.
Other than that the cherry 4100 is likely the best choice, it's light, it's cheap (sometimes very cheap) it's thin and its good enough to use it on the field.

I love my new KBC Poker(s).
-
I use my HHKB as my travel keyboard. Fits perfectly over most laptop keyboards.

Hey how is KBtalking Pure working out for ya? I wonder if you can do some comparison with KBC Poker.
Sounds more like Taiwan to me, your are from.
Edit: Never mind, it is still in the pre-order phase.

100% correct.

Si, possibly out in June. Right now use a scissor KB from ZIPPY paired with a netbook working at cafe. AS a pure mech. KB maniac, scissor is just not fit.

Ripster, you are wrong, a NoBook

No sure he computes or not. If he does, he uses fists rather than fingers to compute,
-
Chuck Norris doesn't compute. The right answer comes to HIM.
Is still a a newbie if compared to linus :bump2:

"Linus only has 2 buttons on his keyboard ‘1′ and ‘0′"
Chuck won here, one button for each fist.

So, what's the current status regarding the KBTalking Pure, any idea?

hhkb is fine for a laptop
i use it on top of my macbook pro 2006 and it's fine ;-)

I probably have one of the most mismatched keyboards for my notebook. I use an IBM Model F AT board. It looks a bit awkward when I travel and have my keyboard sticking out of my notebook bag, but what do I care? As long as I can take my favorite keyboard with me, I'm happy. If any of you ever see someone traveling around with an IBM AT board sticking out of his bag, say hello, as it's probably me. In all my travels I haven't seen anyone else do that. Just for kicks, perhaps I should convert one of my Model F Terminal boards to work with USB and take that with me and see what kind of looks I'd get. Only problem is there's no way it would remotely fit my bag. Or even better, one of my Beam Spring boards.

The HHKB Pro is amazing for portability. I use it with my 2011 15" MBP, I place it right over the palm rest and have a mouse connected to the HHKB and bam, KB/mouse combo is a very small space.

A true hacking keyboard should be programmable, especially at ~ $300. You shouldn't be stuck with the 2nd layer setup the way it is (bad place for arrow keys, good key locations wasted for things like PrintScreen). The KBTalking pure isn't programmable but has a better layout than the HHKB for me. Even the KBC Poker has a better 2nd layer than the HHKB in my view. Hey, did you know the Rapoo v7, a $50 keyboard is fully programmable? (http://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&p=20200)
Anyway, I was hoping disco123 can give us an update about the KBTalking Pure, since he is in Taiwan? can read Chinese, etc.
-
That rapoo might be a really good choice then if someone is fine with those switches. And/or if it is possible to solder other stuff into it.
-
The keyboard is not bad on my 2005-era IBM Thinkpad T42. Added bonus: no Windows keys.
Does any laptop offer a really nice keyboard from the factory?

Thinkpad X100, X120, Edge and X1 if the keyboard came from NMB

HHKB is nice portable but its outlet is not RMS style-friendly :P
Not good.

Better.

Ideal :)

depending on what laptop you have, I think the keyboard would vary as well. I have a 15" macbook pro and both the HHKB Pro 2 and the Noppoo Choc Mini fits very well on top of the laptop keyboard.
