Title: Unicomp Model M replacement keys
Post by: kpeezy on Mon, 09 May 2011, 20:34:35
So, I got my Model M in the mail today and I've put all of the blank black keys on minus one.

I cannot get the spacebar on. It is about an inch shorter than the stock spacebar on the keyboard and the stabilizer on the left side (not the metal piece but the round connector to the left of the spring) is too narrow on the keycap and is too tight to have free motion. The spring section and the stabilizer section are the correct width on the keycap but it's not happening for me.

Am I doing it wrong?

They are replacing the spacebar for free. I didn't know the 1391401 came in a 104 key :p

You have to tell Chuck what size spacebar to get.  101 versus 104key version.

They do, I was told the white fonts wear off easily on those and that's why they don't make it anymore.
Not sure if it is true or not. Anyway, I didn't use mine much. So I can't confirm.

Enjoy your Unicomp.

Yes, it's true. I have seen a lot of black M13s where the white letterings have worn away.
