Title: New Keyboard
Post by: jpz on Wed, 11 May 2011, 11:36:47
Hey everyone i am new to this forum.  I had bought an old Dell at101w at a local thrift store for a $1 lol but i do like the general feel of the mechanical keyboard.  Right now i am looking to buy a mechanical keyboard for less than $110 and i have been leaning more towards cherry browns.  I am a student so i was thinking about getting the das professional model s silent.  One important thing to me is that it is not tenkeyless and has NKRO.  Do you guys have any advice or suggestions?

... das professional model s silent ...

That's one keyboard I would like to try except I'd probably get the ultimate version.

Nope, it means that the keys are blank.

Yup! Das brown switches w/ blank keys. I think you should get a Unicomp Spacesaver 104. I have 1 for sale - $60

Why would you say that?

With the education discount it's hard to beat (assuming you like shiny).
Yeah i really wouldn't mind the shiny coating on my keyboards.  Also newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823830003&cm_re=das-_-23-830-003-_-Product) is having a 20% off and shipping is only 2 dollars.

I just like the "otaku" look that's all. Blank keys would look really nice on Das - like a keyboard Darth Vader.

Yeah i would defiantly go with the ultimate is the keys weren't laser etched.

First off, welcome to Geekhack
I was in the same position you are now, I was whiling to spend 110$ maaaaybe 130$ also, I was looking for the same keyboard but the ultimate version, with the blank keycaps and ended up getting enough money to get a filco, and since I speak spanish and live in south america, I wanted the 105key layout, so now I'm about to spend 250$ for it including shipping and the infamous taxes the president just raised -.-

One of our members wants to keep it looking like that with a Keyboard Kondom.

Unfortunately this is more real life.

I know what you mean i actually was reading your post a day or two ago. But i cant justify spending $160-170 on a keyboard that i have never tried.  I am actually having a hard time justifying buying a keyboard for $110 that i have never seen, used or even touched.  I have never even used a cherry brown keyboard before. I am just basing my purchase on the reviews from geekhack and overclock.

Too bad you want a full 104 keyboard, tenkeyless are so much better. ;)

I just ordered the DAS professional model s silent and the new student discount is 20% for a new keyboard or 15% for a used keyboard.  The only that kinda sucked if i wasnt sure that i wanted to get the keyboard is that they only give you 3 days to use the discount.  But i am really excited to use cherry brown keyboard instead of my old keyboard but anyway thanks for the thoughts on buying the keyboard.

I have a Das Keyboard Model S Ultimate (http://www.daskeyboard.com/model-s-ultimate/), and aside from shiny keys, it's still in great condition (had it since December).
