Title: Kensington Expert Mouse 5.0 Serial port

Hi all

I just got my hands on a model 64215 Kensington Expert mouse 5.0, it only comes with a serial cable, is it possible to make it work under Windows 7 with serial port? I have connected it to my motherboard serial port, and i've enabled the port in BIOS.. but the mouse doesn't seem to be detected in Windows..i've tried installing mousework 6.12, but it just say "driver was not succesfully installed"... I assume I need older version of mousework..but couldn't find it..yet.

Anyone who is currently using this mouse? Can I get some serial to PS/2 or USB to make it work?

Umm..Now I've opened up the mouse, when I plugged the cable in, nothing seems to light up...but I should be able to see some light ..right?

i believe there was a serial to ps/2 adapter made for that. probably your best shot to use that and hope for the best on the generic windows mouse driver. you should get at least tracking and 2 buttons working. forget about the serial port. theres no chance.

I just tried my serial port with another serial touchpad mouse, it somehow works in windows (just a bit jittery)...so in some sense I should at least get some response with the kensington...right...?
Now I'm thinking that if my kensington is defective/broken, or it actually need a proper driver to get any response out of it.

it needed a driver. it dosen't use standard serial logic, but something else so needs a software intermediary. kensington stopped supporting serial like forever ago. maybe you can load up 98 or a live linux and see if it works. i didn't have that one, but a different kensington serial mouse and i even had trouble getting it to work properly under xp. i just threw it out in the end. wasn't worth all the hassle, especially since it wasn't that nice of a mouse.

Thanks for explaining lysol, I guess I will just wait for the adapter to arrive to see if I can get it to work under Ps/2. And I'll probably try using it under windows 95 since I do have the 95 driver in floppy..
